Guest chrisbpr Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 any body seen this make a nice editon to the c500/550.
Guest Confused Stu Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I bought a full-SD Spectec WiFi card a couple of weeks back for my M500. A few days ago went onto their website and found the tech details for the MiniSD WiFi card, so posted it here as breaking news...... then got told that MSMobiles.com had featured it at the end of July! 8-[ That said, this is the first mention we've had that someone's actually got one in the flesh and has actually got it working with a device. Nice to know - seeing as I've just moved onto an M500 with WiFi as one of the reasons!! :)
Guest mutleyboy Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 would be a very welcome addition for the c500 but as the mini-sd slot is under the battery on the c500 there is no way this card would fit in there unfortunately :)
Guest nedge2k Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Not without modification :) Dont worry, all your questions will be answered soon. Spectec assure me my card will be here by the end of the week.
Guest midgetdiablo Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 wow. that would be so awesome :) cant wait!
Guest chrisbpr Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 it does look like the mini sd ard will fit under the battery though...will need to check this out.
Guest agent.m Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 If its the same card then i think it fits but heard that there isnt any drivers for smartphone 8)
Guest tonijj Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 As far as I heard, the spectec wifi card won't fit the C500...nor will any wifi cards :)
Guest PayableOnDeath Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 If its the same card then i think it fits but heard that there isnt any drivers for smartphone 8) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The miniSD and SD wifi cards both use the same driver. They have an additional driver for you non-iPaq Smart Phone edition users as well. You can download it here http://www.spectec.com.tw/download.asp?CMD...820&TYPE=DRIVER looks like there are drivers for Smartphone
Guest nedge2k Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 -Spectec say there are drivers for Smartphone -Spectec say it is compatible with Smartphone -It WILL NOT fit in a C500/C550 without a bit of modification I should have mine by the end of the week so i'll know more then.
Guest midgetdiablo Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 well if they say its compatable with Smartphones i believe its compatible with c500 cuz they would not build a new model for a card. if they did, it would not be compatible with any other device. and if theyre building wifi for the standard size SD card, they will most definately eventually develop wifi for the mini SD card. :) i hope my writing is understandable. ;)

Guest midgetdiablo Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 heres another reassurance :) Spectec, a company out of Taiwan, has listed on their website a rudimentary image and information about a WiFi MiniSD expansion card. This would provide devices equipped with MiniSD slots, such as the much celebrated HTC Typhoon/SMT5600 Windows Smartphone, with WiFi connectivity, making it an attractive option for those who want alternate internet access, or local network access, on their smartphone. This, of course, assumes that the hardware becomes available, at a reasonable price, and in a timely manner. Currently, there's no solid information on the card besides the image on the site. Spectec does, however, also manufacture what is reputed to be the world's smallest SDIO WiFi card.
Guest Confucious Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 midgetdiablo - it won't work as Nedge says with the C500. What other SmartPhones use MiniSDs? Apart from the C550 that is? It would need a phone with an externalk slot as a) it's to big to fit in a normal MiniSD slot and :) I would have thought it would need as little between it and the radio waves as possible to get a decent signal. Does such a phone exist at the moment? And I dread to think what the battery life will be like! But an interesting concept nonetheless. I should imagine though, that when WM5 becomes more widely available, phone maunufacturers will start making phones with biuilt in WiFi. Just my 2d's worth.
Guest nikjensie Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 MPx220 uses MiniSD and the slot is external...
Guest Confucious Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 MPx220 uses MiniSD and the slot is external... You learn something every day - now all we need is for someone to try this card in an MPx220
Guest spacerace Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 (edited) isn't there an SDIO issue ? although the card will fit (with modification to the phone) not many smartphones have SDIO slots ? Edited August 15, 2005 by spacerace
Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 i will be doing that too :) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Got any good news? ;)
Guest smaui Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 I'm really curious if it worked out yet :o
