Slight problem with contacts

this is for definite on my m500, but i dont know about the other devices.. i'd appreciate if anyone reading this has a quick check on ther device.. when i save a new contact, and i enter two names (forename + surname) it always displays the surname followed by the first eg.. "Surname, Forename". this even happens if i enter the both in just the name line, without opening the other screen (which asks for title, forename,middle,surname individually)

as far as i remember on my previous smartphones - even the spv classic/canary - had an option to choose "display as : forname surname; surname, forename; forename (company) surname"

i know that there is a way to do change the way the names are displayed on pc once it is activesync'd, but say if there wasnt a pc around..

i figured out that i can enter both names as just a first name, but u may have noticed i am a slight perfectionist.. :)

BTW this is the first minor issue im having with my m500 - not even the txt bug concerns me as auto correct is off ;)

I don't see anywhere in my Contacts application to change the name display. Mine all display LastName, FirstName.

Hi,

Please forgive my ignorance but ive only just got back into smartphones........

I take it it runs on some sort of windows OS?

If so, next time you sync why not just open up Outlook on your main PC, select contacts, double click on the offending name and in the 'file as' box drop it down and you will get the option to save it as either:

e.g

Smith, John

or

John Smith.

Select the layout you want, press close and save and as long as your are connected it will change the name in your contacts.

Sorry if you specifically after doing it thru the phone but i dont know of anyway etc.

@scottb - u dont see the option to change it? how about checking on a c500, or an earlier model.. im sure there was an option on my c500

Yup, the option has always been there to change contacts to "Stuart Martin" from "Martin, Stuart" on the SPV Classic and C500 (and I assume the others), but there's no way to change it on the M500.

Doesn't the C500 run Smartphone edition and the M500 run Pocket PC? Maybe that's the difference--it's there for Smartphone and not for Pocket PC.

Same problem on M2000, hadn't noticed it untill now!!!

The options that were on the SPV Clasic, E200, and presumably c500/550 are not on the M series.

Oh well, no great loss!!

Have a look at Modaco Contact Link, somewhere in there is a link to another web site which has a fix.

Haven't tried it so can't say what it's like.
