Hi guys,

After hours of site searching and googling I've decided its best to just ask for advice.

I'm after a GPS navigation unit for my C500 and would like some suggestions on the best route to take!

Obviously the cheaper the better :)

Any experiences with tomtom or any others would be appreciated.

Regards,

Elhornet.

Not quite sure what you're looking for...

If you just want a GPS device recommendation then I'd say EMTAC CRUXII or TRINE. I've had them and they are good although the TTFF is a bit long IMO

If you just want a cheap GPS receiver have a look at eBay and you can often find them for £40

If you want a whole SatNav package I'd recommend TomTom. It isn't cheap (and only comes with it's own GPS receiver, so don't buy another one if you're going with TomTom) but I love it.

Never used CoPilot, but those that have like it.

Mapopolis is cheap-ish, but the graphics aren't as pretty, and the voice prompts are stuuuttterrryyy so you miss some turns! :)

Ok thanks for that, I'm still left wondering if there is a cheaper option than me shelling out £150 ish for tomtom mobile and wether its going to work with my C500. And what other alternatives there is to this for a C500 ;)

There is a topic with the title "SmartGPS" started by Maxrom that may have some info you are seeking.

Hi Elhornet Mapopolis is the cheapest Sat Nav software around, it costs roughly £60 and that price allows you to download maps for all of Europe not just England (thats door to door all across Europe).

The current versions allow you to use 'pre recorded' voices so you don't have to put up with the sometimes suttery robot voice and BT GPS's have sold on EBay for as little as £30 (my mate got one and it seems ok)

But to be fair though Mapopolis differs from TomTom Co-Pilot etc because it uses county sized maps so if you wanted to go from say Birmingham to Bristol you would need to open the West Midlands map, the Avon map and the Major roads map (to join them together) also it does not have 3D display (yet, they are working on it) but the maps are a lot more accurate than TomTom. So if you don't mind these 'features' then this is probably the cheapest you will find.

Plus with Mapopolis you can download a 9-day fully functional trial, which is a feature I think they all should offer.
