Rom Upgrade on VPA

Hi Folks,

I have the new vodafone VPA (HTC Magician, imate jam etc etc) and am wanting to have a look at upgrading the rom. What I want to know is are the roms produced specifically for each carrier or does one size fit all?

If I were to upgrade this, what possible problems might I run into.
