The nice thing about PocketPC's and Smartphones is that the software inside them is (pretty much) standard. That way, it's not like buying a Nokia where you have to make sure that the new model 7294756 is still compatible with your PC's software like your existing Nokia 1243635 is! :)

If one PocketPC running Windows Mobile 2003SE can run your programs, so can every other PocketPC running the same Operating System. This simplifies your task to finding the best one for you.

The i-Mate JAM/Qtek S110/SPV M500 are all the same machine in different clothes. Each has little add-ons from it's maker (e.g. Orange have added some stuff to the M500 that the others don't have) but one's pretty much the same as another (although the S110 has 128Mb of memory where the others have 64Mb - nothing a large enough SD card can't counter, but still nice to have!). The phone comes without WiFi or a keyboard - but you can buy an SD WiFi adapter - and is the smallest PPC you can get.

The SPV M2000 is also released a few different names, it does come with WiFi built in, and a pull out keyboard, but is correspondingly a bit bigger than it's M500 little brother.

Establish if a PPC will indeed do what you need it to do (chances are it will, or you can add on software to make it do it) and then just ask yourself what features you'd like on your PPC and how big a PPC you can deal with. Then it should be pretty easy finding a PPC that fits your exact description.

Happy hunting! ;)

P.S. I've recently changed from a C500 smartphone to an M500 PocketPC and IT'S THE COOLEST TOY I'VE EVER OWNED!!! :(/

yeah what Confused Stu and ad241 said.

I love the jam (well mine is the xda2 mini from o2) it does everything the larger xda can but in a smaller package. To me that is way way more versatile.

Also the jams hardware buttons and touchscreen require a harder press which is fantastic because these little babies actually fit into your pocket!

The sound quality as a music player is brilliant too.

I've had an M2000 for about 2 months, no major problems with it, and it has done everything i have asked of it!

wireless works fine, software has installed and worked without any problems, and the handwriting recognition software works better than anything else i have seen!

previously i have had an spv and a spv e200, and this is by far the best!

it is also quite satisfying to know that my pda is better than anyone elses that i have seen!!

I had an XDA2 then moved to the XDA2s and loved it, wireless internet was a big plus along side the keyboard the only thing i did not like was the size. I am thinking about the M500 but cannot make my mind up as i would really like a phone with some type of keyset.

I have recomended the M2000 to 4 people in my work and they all love it tooo...
