New HTC Smartphone coming up!

Who remembers the Podcast interview of Pocketinfo.nl with the CEO of I-mate, knows that I-mate is expecting a new range of devices. Besides Pocket PC Phone Editions (the HTC Universal and Wizard), they are also expecting a new Smartphone of HTC.

Now, a few weeks later, I haven't heard a single word about this Smartphone untill I visited the Swiss Qtek website. At the pricelists area you can see a deviced called "Qtek 8310" being expected to be on sales at of October. The Qtek 8xxx range are Smartphones (like the Qtek 8100 which is equal to the SPV C550) and I did some research to the 8310. Because of the higher number of this name I expected a lot of it :)

Of a member of the PocketPC-club of Pocketinfo.nl, who works at Qtek Holland, I now know that the 8310 will be the new flagship of Qtek. He could not give us too many details, but the following things are sure (I quote):

Windows Mobile 5.0

EDGE

WiFi

QVGA Display

Available at the end of October in The Netherlands.

Price: € 464 w/o VAT, as you can see at the Swiss Qtek website as linked above.

No info about size, shape, processor, etc etc and no pictures available. For more detals we have to wait to the 31st of October or - if we are lucky - earlier when images and / or more info leaks out from HTC, Qtek, I-mate, Orange or T-Mobile...

:??: I don't get your point, this will be a complete new device (and perhaps build on a a new platform) instead of a successor to the SPV C500 or C550 and which will have more than enough capabilities to run wm 2005.

See for more details, including pictures, the following links:

Qtek 8300: http://www.qtek.fi/qtek8300.htm

Qtek 8310: http://www.qtek.fi/qtek8310.htm

And yes, they both have WiFi and Windows Mobile 5. With respect to how they look, I prefer the Qtek 8300.

(like the Qtek 8100 which is equal to the SPV C550)

The 8100 is the SDA the 8200 is the C550

So the 8310 is essentially a C550 with built in WiFi, Edge and WM5? I wonder why 8310 rather than 8300?

A step in the right direction. Has anyone seen styling yet? Does it have the media buttons?

My finnish isn't what it used to be but is it built in wifi or "wifi ready". Anyone here know what "ominaisuuden" means?

The reference to wireless modem usually means that you can use gprs over Bt or Ir to use the phone as a modem.

Quadband is good news, Edge is a waste of time IMHO, but without WiFi it's not much of an improvement over the C550. I wonder if they will release WM5 as an upgrade for the C550?

HTC seem to be releaseing lots of evolving phones rather than waiting and releasing an "upgrade" .

If it's not a step in the right direction it's at least a shuffle....

I believe Orange have officially stated that there will be no WM05 update for the C550. ;)

Their policy would be to issue new devices using that OS rather than...ummm...etc :)

From what I gather so far, the C600, SP5 and Qtek 8310 and 8300 are all gonna get WM5 and be based on HTC Tornado or Blizzard. Slight difference between them is one will have media buttons instead, like the 8300 and 8310. Qteks site reckons 2005/Q4 for its release but also a few weeks back, that grainy photocopy of the C600 that showed up reckoned that would also be 2005/Q4. Also Mobile-review.coms first glance of the 8300/10 mentions optional wifi module so it might be up to the 3 groups if wifi appears in their version if thats the case.

have a look here as well
