mpx220 as a fax modem

Is anyone aware of a way to use the mpx220 as a fax modem. I have the phone modem from Motorolla installed and can access their internet service. When I try to use the modem to connect to a land line such as a fax machine or my own isp, it won't connect. Any ideas?
