Guest linker3000 Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Hi Folks, I look after 14 phones on an Orange biz contract and three of us now have C500s. Mine seems to be OK (a bit flakey on GPRS connections sometimes - needs a couple of retries), but the other two people (who do a lot of travelling) are complaining bitterly that their C500s won't pick up a signal in locations where their old phones used to work fine and/or they get dropped calls in these areas. Both have gone back to their old phones as they need to be contactable at all times during business hours - they have asked me to get them other models as they are so fed up with the C500s. Anyway, is the C500 known to be less sensitive than other models - is it all that CPU power (!) under the hood that's interfering with the signal. I have put this issue to our Orange Business Contact but you lot will probably answer first (ie: in under a week!) Thanks
Guest Looby Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 I have had various mobiles and live in a country area. I have found the C500 hangs on to a signal as good if not better than my other mobiles. I now have an i-mate SP3i and this is even better, I can send/receive emails quickly with no bars showing. I have found that every now and then it is good to power the phone off and then on again as it seems to lock the signal more strongly. :)
Guest James Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 i have had alot of phones and my old C500 was the best phone i have ever had for signal. and its bloody hard to get signal at my house! :-) my current C550 is crap in comparison and i find it almost impossible to get signal at my house!
Guest machiavell1 Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 i have had alot of phones and my old C500 was the best phone i have ever had for signal. and its bloody hard to get signal at my house! :-) my current C550 is crap in comparison and i find it almost impossible to get signal at my house! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Having used a Moto v3, Nokia 6230i and Nokia 8910i prior to my C500 (amongst ALOT of other phones - prob 5 or more a year...), I had real concerns about the C500's call quality and reception. Those 3 phones are really excellent for calls, and I am happy to announce that my C500 has been superb. The reception has been great, even in low coverage areas, I have had no problems regaining signal (which some have complained about), and (slightly irrelevant) no dust under my screen despite having had it for 3 months, and taken it to the beach for 2 weeks! Can't guarantee that you will get a good handset/fw, but I can tell you that such C500s do exist out there!
Guest lop1 Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 It seems that the sensibility has dropped with the new ROM ( GSM stack 1337.0.42_0.03.28 instead of 1337.0.32_0.03.18 ). You can find some discussion on the subject on http://www.mobismart.net/forums/Default.aspx?g=topics&f=4 And a tool and a tutorial to bring back the old trusty GSM stack.
