C550 or M500?

I was thinking about these phones just now, and thought I'd do a little research into them.

Clearly the M500 is better in terms of functionality, but it is most definately a phone second, and the lack of buttons must make calls etc tricky.

So who would take the C550 over the M500, and why would you do so?

I took the M500 over the C550 because:

1) Most/all of my apps would be adversely affected by the new screen resolution

2) TomTom reportedly doesn't work

4) It's nothing really new (coming from a C500 that is)

With the M500 I still have to replace my software, but versions are already available, plus I wanted to try something new

I like it so far (only been 3 days), but yes - phone calls and texting are not as easy as on a "phone".

I too was faced with this dilema, C550 or M500. I remembered back to the day I got my Sony/Ericsson P800. It was great, loved the touch screen and the size wasn't an issue. Then the novelty wore off, touch screen had no tactile feedback and was a pain to use, size and weight began to bother me.

So, I opted for the C550 as the phone function is most important to me. I think you need to decide what you really need from a device and form an opinion from that.

Good luck :-D

As a c500 owner, I honestly can't see the point in getting the 550. My contract is up soonish and I'll probably get the M500 - something a bit different to the c500 - and if I happen to be going somewhere where a more phonish device is required I can swap the sim to the 500.

I chose the C550 because although the display does affect some apps most of mine (incl. CoPilot) work. With a PPC I would have to buy ALL my apps again.

I wanted a phone first, I have a Motorola A1000 and for the reasons others have stated, I don't like a touch screen on a phone.

It is personal choice, one is not "better" than the oother, they are different devices (but both the best in their class!)

I have a C500 with Tom Tom Mobile and thinking of upgrading. Can anyone tell me whether Tom Tom is compatible with either of these handsets. The Tom Tom website doesn't include either in their list of compatible models.

There is a registry hack in the C550 forum thet will get TomTom working with the C550 but it is not supported by TomTom (yet).

I asume the Pocket PC version would work with the M500 but you wouuld probably have to buy it again unless they supply both versions when you bought it (I would have to buy CoPilot again if I changed to the M500).
