Dailing phone extensions from contact list

Without going into a long description my company mostly uses Blackberry's, so I'm trying one out just so I know what they are talking about when they ask questions (smartphone is sooo much better).

There is one feature that I'd like to emulate on the smartphone and that is the ability to dial the extension if there is one listed in the contact's phone number. I did a search on the forum's but didn't find anything, could be I used the wrong keywords though. I figure this had to have come up before. Anyone got any tips to make this work?

Not sure of the specifics but you could add a pause to the phone number then add the extension. I believe the code is p, but dont quote me on that. So you would add the number as

856-555-1000ppp1234

This would add enough of a pause for the automatic operator to promt you....then it will be added in automatically.

OR

you can put the company's main number in Business 1 and the direct dial number in business 2

Tried adding pauses and waits and neither worked. Never even knew that option was there (edit contact phone number and then click on edit). Must be a difference between the two but I couldn't find any documentation on it. Also tried adding ,,, but that didn't seem to work either. It seems like that is the right track, anyone have any luck in getting this to work?
