Guest emsoftsys Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Anybody from Manchester? I've been having problems with my connection dropping and the phone not reconnecting. Orange tell me that this is due to a malfunctioning transmitter in the Manchester area that will be fixed on 22nd Jan. Has anybody else in the Manchester area experienced any problems with the connection?
Guest Gorskar Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 My phone seems okish, but then again there are lots of transmitters in manchester, so it could just be the one around your area. Eg, Ive heard that in the city centre they have one on every other block just about.
Guest Firaas Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 South Manchester here (Posh bit of Stockport, if there is one ;)) No problems with phonecalls or GPRS at all
Guest chocobogo Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 yeh Manchester here, OXFORD Road No probs with signal, although it is intermittant, always there though, but sometimes 1 bar, sometimes 5 bars, there is an issure that the SPV doesnt correctly display the signal stregth properly
Guest youngerpants Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 emsoftsys Altrincham (well navigation rd actually) so I'm about 2 miles from you but with no problem. however, I have noticed tha I lose connection when driving up the Washway rd (i.e. though sale) so it could be a dodgy transmitter. If i were you i'd give Orange a ring and whine atthem until they sort it out
Guest mugen Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I'm in Altrincham too - don't seem to have much problem. If anything reception has been better than on my old Sony cmd. GPRS seems a little dodgy - drops out quite frequently.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Eg, Ive heard that in the city centre they have one on every other block just about. That's not overly surprising. God knows how they manage to get a helf decent service in say, downtown Manhatten :/
Guest emsoftsys Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Youngerpants When the connection drops out does the phone search and find the connection again or do you need to re-boot the phone? Incidently, I live just off Washway road near the Peugot garage and The Avenue).
Guest apollonia Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I live in west Didsbury and my voice connection drops now and again. i've not been able to connect to GPRS since i got the phone (last week) - i've tried in the city centre and at work in altrincham/wythenshawe. orange have been as helpful as a choccy teapot and i'm now waiting for their tech support cretins to phone me back to try to sort out the gprs :x and also for them to get some more spv's in stock so they can send me a new handset. :x
Guest emsoftsys Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Appollnia When your connection drops off does the phone search and reconnect itself or do you have to reboot the phone? As for GPRS, it sounds like a 'dodgy' handset but I guess you knew this already ;) , I don't have any problems with GPRS
Guest apollonia Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 it just cuts out and then the phone searches and (eventually) finds orange again. i've also noticed that the signal strength is always quite low - 1 or 2 bars - even though my old t68 shows full signal. Now and again, when i look at my phone, it has somehow dropped orange completely and changed to home service. I dont know whether this is because it cant find a network. I just hope that orange get back to me soon and send me a new handset.... ;)
