C500 on Vodafone GPRS Problems

I have a problem with my Orange SPV C500 and wondered whether anyone could help or point me in the right direction?

I have had the phone unlocked and am using a Vodafone Sim card. I can't access WAP or GPRS though because I don;t have the correct settings.

Has anyone been able to set their phone up with the Vodafone Internet and WAP settings?

Any advice? I've been looking through the Help sections but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Any helps is much appreciated

 :??:

I'm using a C500 on Vodafone, and have managed to get everything working ok. Firstly, I went and deleted all the Orange data services that came as default, then used the following settings to get GPRS set up, and configure WAP and MMS. Note, this is for Vodafone in the UK :

Dial Up Connections

-------------------

Create new connection (Vodafone WAP)

Connects to - WAP Network

Phone no - +447836900808

Username - [email protected]

Password - user

Domain - [Empty]

GPRS Connections

----------------

Create new connection (Vodafone GPRS)

Connects to - The Internet

Access point - Internet

Username - web

Password - web

Primary DNS - 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS - 0.0.0.0

IP Address - [Empty]

Create new connection (Vodafone MMS)

Connects to - Secure WAP network

Access point - wap.vodafone.co.uk

Username - wap

Password - wap

Primary DNS - 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS - 0.0.0.0

IP Address - [Empty]

Once set up, in data connections, select the following :

Internet connection - Vodafone GPRS

Work connection - Automatic

WAP connection - Vodafone WAP

Secure WAP connection - Vodafone MMS

To get MMS messaging working, you need to add a new connection for media messages under the messaging menu (you can/should delete the Orange settings). Use the following config to create the new connection :

Description: GPRS MMS

MMSC Address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms

Data Connection: Secure WAP Network

Gateway: WAP 1.0 Gateway

I.P Address: 212.183.137.012

Port: 9201

Dont forget to set the Vodafone SMS service center number up if it's not already there. The number is +447785016005

The voicemail number needs to be set to 121 to get the voicemail hotkey working as well, otherwise you'll just get a disconnected tone when you try to call it.

That should get you the full Vodafone service on your C500.

Hope that helps you out!

IT WORKS, IT WORKS, IT WORKS !!!!

My undying gratitude goes out to you Maxrom. May you live to be 1000 !!

Its nice to know there are people out there who can sort out life's little problems. You have been a huge help (far more help than those people at the aptly named Vodafone Customer Service)

For anyone who has the same problem I had, and has very little technical knowledge (like me), follow these instructions above exactly, and you will have no problems.

Thanks again

David

Glad it helped you out - getting it all working had me a bit puzzled at first too, but it's all working now!

Enjoy! :)

I've got all this set up, but when I try and set up to be able to download my email direct to my phone from my server, I just get "Unable to connect, verify you have network coverage." The "G" comes on (over the antenna symbol) as it makes the connection, but then that message appears.

I checked with Vodafone and I have MMS and GPRS set up on my account.

Any ideas?

Hi Maxrom, thanks for the post, done it all on my C500 other than from here -

"Dont forget to set the Vodafone SMS service center number up if it's not already there. The number is +447785016005

I would be obliged if you could point me in the right direction as far as carrying out this part of the task is concerned.

Cheers in advance
