Hi guys first post here.

I've been looking into upgrading my phone as my C500 has suffered from dust under the screen for months, and I can't be having it anymore.

So i'm looking at the M500 and i'm pretty much liking it (love smartphones) thing is there wanting to charge me 100£ to upgrade to it.

1) I've never had a PDA so i don't know how much i'll use it.

2) 100£ to upgrade wtf?

basically is there anything I can say to drop that price, or any shops best to go to.

I deal with Orange shops usually

but there is two carphone warehouses where I live, so I have a fair amount of choice.

if it was 50£ i'd hand it over but 100£ is a tad steep in my opinion since i'm on talk 120 with 100 text and 4mb GPRS I pay on average 35£pm and i've been with them 6 years.

is there a secret handsake? hehe

I just don't wanna get ripped off.

Luke.

In My experience there are several things you can try, don't bother with the shops, they're just working for thier commision. Give orange a call and talk to them, In the past I'm managed to come to an agreement with them on upgrade prices, particularly if a competitive network is offering an equivilent product for free. Just tell them that unless they can help you out you'll leave.

You can sometimes also blag things by signing up for a higher tarrif and then lowering it.

Hope that helps, let us know how you get on!

Orange website has the M500 for 80 quid now, with £30 tarriff of 200 mins and 500 texts, not sure if this is different with an upgrade though, might have to sign up for 18 months.... :)

i'll ask about upping to that 200talk 500txt deal, see if a cheaper M500 can be obtained.

is it possible to change to a new contract or tariff and keep your number?

if you like a gadget and rarely make one handed phone calls, you'll love the M500,

it runs loads of software, GPS on it is a dream, and wifi internet access (with a wifi card) is brilliant,

just the thing for browsing teh net / checking ebay on the move

its pretty crap using it as a phone tho, you need to use the stylus to make a call, it's almost impossible to select a contact with your finger

i went from an E200 to the M500, and am loving it :-)

Just browsing and found this...

I also just moved from a C500 to an M500 and had similar issues.

I found a bit of software called D9 which makes it much easier to use the M500 as a phone one-handed.

You can do T9 contact lookups , place calls and start texts (but you still need the stylus to write messages easily)

It's not perfect, but it's freeware so worth a look.

mobiles.co.uk are doing the M500 for £9.99 on a £30 per month contract.

I'm sure I saw somewhere in the UK doing the same tarriff but giving the M500 away.

Stick "compare SPV M500" into google and see what you get.

I was still using an e200 until today... I got my m500 for free from orange.

As I've always done in the past, I just rang them up and said without hesitation "I want to leave orange"...no messing around, just blurt it out...

*tap* *tap* *tap* for a couple seconds then as predictable as an Adam Sandler film, she says "is there a particular reason why you wish to leave Orange?" to which I replied, yes, I've been told it will cost me £100 to upgrade to the phone I want which I can get for free On T-mobile with a cheaper and better contract too!... 2 minutes lates she's dispatched an m500 to me and changed my contract to double the texts for £4 less a month too.

Needless to say I was happy with that 5 minute phone call. :)
