Guest Dirkz Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 I have a audiovox smt 5600 and I have been trying to get a different ringtone for my contacts but when i try and i go to 'custom' ring tone i can only choose from the default sounds. I saved my custom mp3 in /storage/application/data/sounds and its not working. Any help would be great :)
Guest doughick Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 I beleive that you can have an MP3 as a generic ringtone, but not as a specific tone for a specific person - it has to be a .wav for that to work. doug
Guest BAZIL71 Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 But it is not fair... Guys, really... There must be a trick about it that we can use mp3 ringtones for each contact...
Guest MisterOrange Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 (edited) So far I've been able to get WMA files as well as WAV to work for a contact's custom ringtone. Still, it doesn't really make all that much sense that you can use MP3 for the general ringtone, but not a contact ringtone. It may be pointless, but I'm still looking for a way. EDIT: Upon further testing on my Audiovox SMT 5600, I found that you can use MP3 files as ringtones for contacts if stored in "Storage/Application Data/Sounds/". I moved some MP3 files into this directory, chose a contact, and selected one of the MP3 files as the custom ringtone, and all went well! My holy grail of ringtone-customization-awsomeness would be to be able to use mp3 (or even WMA) files as ringtones for contacts from my storage card. Then I could use the same songs I keep on the card to listen to for contact ringtones! As it stands, I've only so far been able to set a MP3 on my storage card as a general ringtone using the registry hacking found here. When I try to set a MP3 or a WMA as a contact's custom ringtone, I am able to select the file from the list of available ringtones, but when I try to save the changes, I get the message "This ring tone is not working properly. You may want to choose a different one to use." Dang. Well, the dream of not needing to convert my music just to use as ringtones will just have to wait for another day. :) Edited September 3, 2005 by MisterOrange
Guest tivomaniac Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 I can't find the option to assign a ring tone per contact anywhere on my new smt5600. What am I missing?

What am I missing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can assign a custom ringtone to a contact by selecting "Edit" while viewing a contact, and choosing a ringtone for the box that says "Custom ring tone".
