Guest ericgla Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I'm hoping someone here can help me with the problem with my AT&T SMT5600. THe phone had been working normally since I bought it, and was unlocked a few weeks ago using the free unlock utility. I had pressed the camera button to take a picture on the phone. The camera app loaded, but no keys on the phone were working. I could not power down the phone so I pulled the battery and rebooted. The phone rebooted, but all the application icons were missing, along with the start menu. I could still place calls. I rebooted the phone again, and it shows the AudioVox screen, then gets stuck on the Windows mobile screen. I tried a hard reset to no avail. I can't do a warranty exchange on the phone since it went swimming with me a month ago. Any help on how to proceed to get my phone to boot would be greatly appreciated! --Eric
Guest jporch316 Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 Its probably cos of the swim that the phone is dead. Water damage normally sneaks up on you as the internal metal slowly corrodes from the small amount of chlorine in swimming pools. A hard reset normally cures everything - how did you do the hard reset
Guest ericgla Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I did the hard reset by holding the 2 soft keys and powering on the phone, then pressing zero to reset. Actually it was in a river so no chlorine, but I still think you are correct that the water may be the reason. The odd part is that I can connect to the phone via engineering mode, so a demory dump to the sd card, etc. If the phone was corroding from the inside, I wouldn't think it would work at all. --Eric
Guest ericgla Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 I thought I would give a quick update to close out the topic. I ended flashing the phone to Windows Mobile 2005. This was not an ideal solution, but at least the phone is usable again. Now that I know the phone hardware is good, I need to figure out how to flash back to WM2003... --Eric
