So I just rang up Orange Upgrades, they said there would be no upgrade fee, but the handset is 129.99... Weird because last week I rang up and they said it was 99.99 and I would probably get it cheaper...

Im paying over 35 pounds per month. So I asked to be put through to retentions, they said that they wouldn't do anything. So I went online to check if the price was right.

It said 79.99 on orange upgrade and upgrade free was nothing. So I upgraded then and there. Got a text message saying to expect it on the 22nd...

So why the hell can Orange Online do it for 79.99 and Orange Upgrades do it for 129.99?

come on.. you havent got your m500 yet... i got mine for free.. ask to speak to retentions no matter what, and mention some of the t-mobile deals... i.e. the one with the m500 - or whatever t-mob called it - and a free satnav package..

also talk about some offers by o2 and that will also help out...

not forgetting to mention that how long youve been on orange, and how much you would like to stay on orange, and how just a little device can make you change your mind about being on orange...

if you still cant get anything, ring again and speak to someone else...

hope this helps

Bah. I can't be bothered to be honest with you. Ive tried all that stuff with other deals, and retentions.

just so you know - our upgrade procedure has changed as of last monday.

now when a customer comes into store, we cannot base the price of a handset on their talkplan anymore, we have to use our new UPT (Upgrade Pricing Tool) on the intranet in order to discover what pricing 'band' you're in.

now if my memory serves correct, it should be free for you as long as you're in band 4 or 5 - if you're a talk 300 customer I can't see why they wanted to charge you so much for it - unless of course you've not been with us very long.

Been with orange for 12 months. YP120, but all the other extras come to 35 quid a month usually.

I've got three lines with Orange at the moment, total average about £75 per month. I'm planning on cancelling the oldest two because they are past the 12 month contract now and I rarely use them for calls. There's still about 5 months left on my thrid line, do you think they will allow me to get a FREE upgrade to the M500 if I extend my third line's contract a further 12 months?

definetly - but speak to the people that work at orange

I don't think that they will let you upgrade a line with 5 months left....................................... (without a fee of course)

If Orange work the same as other companies then the sales, upgrades and retnetions depts. don't have anything to do with each other and one cannot tell you what the other will offer you.

I'd ring themup and tell them you've changed your mind about upgrading and you don't want to pay for it. Also tell them you are going to move to another provider, this is whne you will speak to retentions and if they're anything like vodafone they will offer you pretty much whatever you want.

I still have a contract with voda as well as with o2 and orange and I normally get to the point of sending the cancelation letter to voda and the ring up and pretty much give you whatever you ask for. Works everytime.

plead with retentions and they will make you a deal (usually the free handset of your choice :))

Hi,

I'm in my last month now of my 12 month contract with Orange. I really want the M500 but i'm not really sure when the best time is to phone them. I can get it for free with another provider so i really dont want to have to pay an upgrade fee.

How do i play this?

Do i need to give Orange 30 days notice when i want to cancel my contract? If so is it worth ringing them now and speaking to retentions?

Cheers in advance :)

I had a similar problem my contract ran out while I was on holiday before I went they wanted £99 + £75 upgrade fee. I decided to wait until I got back (asked for PAC code and they gave me it) Got back this morning and rang Orange they now want £175 tried the Orange shop and they also want £175 so I ordered on line and got it for £79 + I keep my Select 500 tariff.

I bet that I will not pay a single penny for an M500 upgrade when I am out of my 12 month contract (mention T-Mobile equivalent for free (can also include co-pilot sat nav)).

Then again, I may be cheeky and try it 29 days before my contract is up. Know the system and play it ;) :)

Hi everyone,

Just bought new M500 yesterday after reading through this forum convinced me its the best little combo phone/PDA around at the moment. Also ordered screen protector through Gadgetino.

Still not sure which case would be best.....the Boxwave Flexiskin looks ok but does it have holes cut out to get to stylus/ports etc?

Anyway....so much great info on here to read to get to know new phone.....thanks!

PS And I am on E50!!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You should be fine. I am on ED50 too and spend is about £20 per month total. When it first came out i got to retentions and they said it would cost £49.99. After a few weeks (last week in fact) they said £29.99. I mentioned T-mobile etc and the oCSR was rude about my tarriff etc so i asked for her supervisor (cut off). Rang back and complained about service to a supervisor. Only supervisor was lying and he wasnt a supervisor at all but another oCSR, asked for real supervisor (cut off). Rang back and got to a real supervisor and explained above and got a £30 goodwill so i could have the phone for free. Bloody rigmarole and it was only because of the poor CS that i got it free. Suspect if you wait another month everyone can have them free on upgrade via retentions unless you're on OVP Virgin (although... apparently they do not look at tarriff now and use a tool which tells them the bottom line).

PM and let me know how you get on.

They have changed how they do upgrades it is now on your last 3 bills not your tariff, I was given my PAC code with 14 days to go, good luck.

I tried all this but ended up just getting my PAC number £54 and then got a Qtek S110 128Mb ram rather than the M500's 64Mb and same dark colour.

Total cost £54+£29.99=£84 and £30/month on O2, keeping the same number.

Cost from Orange would have been £79.99+£99.99 (at that point!) = £179.98

Basically £100 to stay with Orange !

How do they expect any customer loyalty, is it not cheaper to keep a customer rather than to get a new one ? (additional processing, setting up dd etc ?)

I fully expect the same from O2 at the end of this contract mind you, they all seem to be as bad as each other !

Well i just ordered an m50o through orange today. I was gonna just cancel my existing contract and take out a new one with orange. i called them up and said i wanted to cancel. i said i was moving to t-mobile and could get the phone for free without actually saying any deal inparticular. the bloke said he couldnt give me it for free and asked what i would be willing to pay. i said, well how low can you go?

got the phone for £29.99 keeping my existing tariff. quite happy as i had no intention of leaving orange.

It all seems so variable !

I suppose it will vary according to mood of OCS, Retentions, how much you spend monthly and which way the stones fall.......
