I have some *.wav files im trying to use as ringers/alerts...but all i get when i select them is a ding sound. If i navigate to them, and select them it says "this file format is unsupported." However if I open them up in MP10, it plays fine....What am I doing wrong...?

Tried the files in

\windows

\Storage\Application Data\Sounds

\Storage\My Documents\My Sounds

This is a smt5600 (SP2003)

ps: oops..put this in the wrong place..

Opened it up in MediaPlyr/Properties

All it said was MPEG Layer-3

If this is wrong format can you point me to a faq or thread to explain what i need to do to convert it...cheers

I attached the file just in case.

Mail.wav

That would be an mp3 then, not a wav.

I thought the SMT5600 came with WMP10, which would play an mp3 ringtone.

Maybe it will work if you change the file extension to .mp3 ?

Wav files need to be PCM-formatted.

Load them into Windows Sound Recorder and Save As.
