Guest bopgun Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 My Audiovox smt 5600 has been working like a charm until a couple days ago. all of a sudden, it refuses to sync - or be recognized - when I connect with a usb cable. The funny thing is, it charges, but just won't sync. I tried switching cables, switching computers (i sync between a laptop and desktop), installed ActiveSync 3.8 on a fresh computer - all with the same result. Did a Hard Reset too - no change. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Guest Mikenatgas Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I am also having the same problem, I can't sync at all... when I plug the usb plug into the phone it also charges but will not sync... anyone else had this problem? and know a possible solution? Last couple of days I have been trying to set my email up can't think why that would cause the problem tho.

Guest cortez Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 (edited) if you haven't already, confirm that ActiveSync and your phone are (still) set to sync via the USB port? Edited September 13, 2005 by cortez

Anyway, once I figured the problem, I hunted through my browser history for this page, registered a new account, confirmed it in the email and now am posting the answer to your problem. I hope this works for you or else... I did two things on XP Pro, of which the first one might not be necessary. Here they are: 1. Make sure you have device drivers for the USB hub and the ports. Then, go to device manager and uninstall the USB components one by one. Then restart your computer and allow your system to find the USB components one by one. You might need to use your copy of the drivers for this one. 2. Hook your phone up (powered on) to the USB port on your computer. You probably will not see anything happen just as before. Then, power off your phone. You should see some activity happen and at that time, my phone began to charge (which didn't happen before) and if you have the device manager screen open, you will see at the bottom of the devices list, a new category called 'Windows CE Devices'. Upon expanding, you should see your Smart Phone listed. Turning on the phone will not disrupt anything after that point. I only have done this so far. I don't know when it will stop working again but I know what I'm going to try if it does! :o Take care.
Guest bond1977 Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Experienced this kind of problem also. I even do a hard reset on my phone. Right now I am using guest partnership in tandem with Jeyo Mobile Companion. Its already almost a month since I did not experienced this problem again. And before I connect my SMT5600 to the PC I see to it that MS Activesync was opened first.
Guest lavamatrix Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 (edited) ok so I dont know if this is the same problem but with my phone I just got from ebay it wont register on either of my computers. Just gives a "this usb device is malfunctioning" but it doenst show any error in the device manager. Did I get sold a bad phone? everything else on the phone seems to be working...? edit: ok so active sync works via IR. So I think there is just something wrong with my usb connection. Anyone ever hear of this problem? I know its not my computer since I tried other ones. Its not the cable cause I tired many different ones. SO WTF? If I flash the phone to a new rom could that possibly fix the prob? Edited September 26, 2005 by lavamatrix
