Smartphone as a universal remote control

I have been doing some searching, but I am unable to find software for smartphones to use them as a universal remote control. I had software from Novi on my PPC that worked great. Does anyone know of a similar program that works on smartphones?

I still see no sense in doing it as the range of Smartphone Infrared is way to weak...

Communicating with IR is also not easy to develop :)

But good luck!

Tech,

i do not see the thread you refer to. is the IR on the smartphone strong enough or not as mentioned here?

Hi there

yes sorry, i agree about the IR strength. But it would be better if the recieving end had bluetooth support!

There must be a device to "strengthen" the IR signal?

*investigates further*

Not possible as I can see it. Only if you have Bluetooth enabled appliances in the house, but most work on infrared so it won't be universal. Infrared in MS Smartphone is way to weak.

Even if I have to sit close to the TV, a remote control for the smartphone would be really cool and would be a killer app, could change tv channels in the store lol 8)

Tested sending a file from my SPV C550 to my laptop with built in IR and the length was around 20ft :)
