Guest whemmingway Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 I have been doing some searching, but I am unable to find software for smartphones to use them as a universal remote control. I had software from Novi on my PPC that worked great. Does anyone know of a similar program that works on smartphones?
Guest Tech Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 there is a thread about this down below there is no app that can do this just yet however I am planning to develop one... as i have developed a remote WMP controller

Communicating with IR is also not easy to develop :) But good luck! Sven
Guest poulidis Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 I definitely want this one when you develop it. Good luck!
Guest whemmingway Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Tech, i do not see the thread you refer to. is the IR on the smartphone strong enough or not as mentioned here?
Guest Tech Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Hi there yes sorry, i agree about the IR strength. But it would be better if the recieving end had bluetooth support! There must be a device to "strengthen" the IR signal? *investigates further*

Only if you have Bluetooth enabled appliances in the house, but most work on infrared so it won't be universal. Infrared in MS Smartphone is way to weak.

Guest aznsolo Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 there is a device to extend the range of ir devices. well there are plenty out in stores.
Guest Radeon12345 Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 (edited) Even if I have to sit close to the TV, a remote control for the smartphone would be really cool and would be a killer app, could change tv channels in the store lol 8) Tested sending a file from my SPV C550 to my laptop with built in IR and the length was around 20ft :) Edited August 23, 2005 by Radeon12345
