Guest arawak Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I have just got off the phone after calling Orange "Customer Support" and have to say I am extremely p*ssed off! When I called regarding the god awful tone I get when calling an engaged phone (which so happens to bl**dy hurt like hell!!) they told me I would get an answer within five days. Five days had been and gone with no answer so I called this morning only to be told I would basically have to wait indefinitely for an answer! WTF is that all about?? The woman I spoke to told me due to the large number of people waiting for an answer from "technical support" there is a large queue. They don't have enough "technical support" people to answer all the questions. Let's face it this is either a fault with the phone or it isn't! If it isn't then I want to get rid of it and get something else as there is no way I am putting up with that! The woman also told me that she had only seen a picture of the handset and pretty much had no idea about it. This I personally see as being ridiculous seeing as they are the "front line" of support for handsets and queries about it. I am seriously considering cancelling my contract and getting a different phone as I have had about as much bullsh*t as I can take from Orange lately. If it wasn't for this forum I think I would have given up on it ages ago but I have stuck with it and am now beginning to regret it ;) If it wasn't for the one MAJOR problem I have it would be a great phone but at the moment it's too much of a problem to live with if they don't sort it very very quickly. Cheers A
Guest zenabi Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 The problem could be down to your specific handset. As I've posted before, I don't have your problem on my SPV, but then I don't get the engaged tone at all and no sign that the other end is busy. Perhaps you should ask for a replacement SPV, Orange will get it to you by the next day - at least they do something right...
Guest arawak Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I understand your point but surely this is a basic function for a handset? Getting an engaged tone when the phone you call is busy is possible on every handset known to man and you never get any pain with them. Now if it is a problem with my handset then surely Orange "Customer Services" would know this or am I expecting too much? I am reluctant to get a replacement handset as I previously stated because I could end up with the same problem all over again as there are others that get the problem. Not only that but the handset I have is relatively "bug" free with the exception of this painful tone problem. Therefore, I went to Orange for a solution expecting (not entirely unreasonable) them to have one. The fact that Orange can't just tell me is what I find so incredible. I am going to email them and threaten to end my contract as they aren't fulfilling their end of it as they expect me to endure the pain until they deem me worthy of an answer which is unacceptable.
Guest Hax Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I too have had this problem with a loud, high pitched sound from the earpiece just before hearing the enganged tone. And yes, it does bloody hurt - but maybe that's just the "dog" in me coming out ;) As more than one person has seen it, I would sugest that it's a software bug, probably inadequate handling of "error conditions" - the error being unable to connect the call successfully. Hax
Guest arawak Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 If that is the case it should be pretty straight forward for them to resolve the issue. I hope it is the case as I like the phone and don't really want to part with it but am not willing to put up with the pain. Hopefully Orange will respond soon so I will know one way or another and will have some idea of an ETA on the fix for it (assuming it is a software issue). Orange have just p*ssed me off so much today with there "we understand the problem" attitude today ;) They obviously bloody don't otherwise they wouldn't try to be so patronising when you told them you want a solution to it
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I don't get a loud noise just a quiet engaged tone. So it must be your handset.
Guest The Futures Bright Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I get 3 bursts of an American type busy signal (OK) then 4 loud beeps decreasing in pitch which is awful. (Sore on the old ears) Why does everyone not get the same annoying tones? I could live fine with the american engaged tone, but not the bleeps.
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I only get the american style tone. Not the other.
Guest benny Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I would have thought that the engaged tone would be generated from the network as opposed to a locally generated tone on the phone? I've never had this problem either, for the record! B
Guest Hax Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I'd don't think the loud squeal that we're hearing is anything to do with the engaged tone itself, more to do with how the Orange/MS software handles the speaker when an engaged tone is encountered. Hax
Guest AsherUK Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I get one soft standard engaged tone, then a few (slightly higher pitched, but not louder) tones in quick sucsession, than 2 soft standard engaged tones ...then the phone automatically disconnects. I have 2 SPV's and it does the same on both, so I assume this is what the phone is meant to do, so maybe it is a hardware problem you have. ?
Guest Hax Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 It is possible that it's a hardware problem, but the way that the speaker works flawlessly for the rest of the time, makes me think that it's more likely to be a software bug - and believe me as a software engineer, it's normally against my pricimples to blame software over hardware ;-) Hax
