Guest Mat-d-Rat Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I've just noticed that the ActiveSync (Well the WCESCOMM.exe process) is hogging almost 10% of my total cpu time. This is even after the phone is fully uptodate and active sync is idle! I posted on the newsgroup and only had one response which was the same - How about you guys? This CAN'T be right!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Mine also jump's up to 10%ish useage. I think it may be that i have it set to update any changes as and when they happen, so it is constantly checking for changes
Guest Mat-d-Rat Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 MIne set to just update once ;) not constant... In any case 10% just to monitor for changes? I'ts a bit extreme for a few miserable bytes of data!!
Guest Mat-d-Rat Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 http://www.cewindows.net/commentary/future...eactivesync.htm - Seems to indicate it's a known problem until you do a sync. However I just tried a manual one and it's still the same ;)
Guest Extreme_biker0 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 I assume you ppl are using winxp that tells you the cpu usage of each process? Well actually its not telling you the cpu usage of each process, rather the percent of cpu useage that is being used. Mine quotes activesync as taking 10%, but then says at the bottom outside of the list that my cpu is only being used 7%. In other words Active sync is taking up 10% of the 7% of CPU time that is being used. 0.7% of the total CPU time.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Yeah i noticed that today, the System idle process was taking up 99"%" (God knows why), while other processes were taking another 10 or so. From the total useage I guessed it was reporting 1/100ths of the CPU useage, not sure exactly though. Better than 10% from one app though.

Actually I'm using windows 2000 - but the Process list shows all the processes (totalling 100%) and it is idling at 10%. I'm a programmer by trade so this is something I'm always aware of when writing applications. You just have to look at the amount of "CPU time" used to verify this, it should be next to nothing but mine was showing over 12 hours cpu usage!??!! System Idle 99% is what you WANT to see ;) that is correct.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Ah k, my WinNT/2K/XP knowledge isn't quite _that_ extensive it seems ;)
Guest benjymous Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 I noticed this yesterday when watching a DVD on my computer. With the phone in the cradle, the sound was choppy as the software player was running out of cpu time, but the moment I pulled out the phone it started playing fine (and yes, plugging the phone back in made the choppiness come back) Normally I can have plenty of other things going on in the background, and frequently watch a DVD in a small window whilst programming / web surfing / chatting to people but an active activesync seems to be the only thing to cause such a problem :)
Guest Mat-d-Rat Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 No one seems to want to know or fix this, and considering there is no comms going on I can not understand how it can be this high! Someone has made a bo-bo somewhere, hope 3.7 solves it (not that I can see anything about 3.7 anywhere)
Guest cyrilthefish Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 Yikes! it's using a constant 7-8% CPU usage  well that explains why my games have been running slower than usual anyway :) *unplugs USB cable and uses memory-card reader instead*
Guest Mat-d-Rat Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 Yep - sucks don't it! When playing games it's quite amazing how much difference that 7% makes!
Guest dma Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 I am using this to help the issue. http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/a...ynctoggle.shtml
Guest Will Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Superb App.. works 'just like it says on the tin' and freeware too.. Will
Guest Bazz Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 BTW I've never had this problem, but I set it to sync manually in Options->Schedual so it's not constantly checking for changes. Barry
