After running Opera or IE on my T-mobile SDA (similar to the Orange 500) with windows mobile 2003, the GPRS connection remains active. In the connection settings I've selected to close the connection after 5 mins of inactivity, but I can see no effect of this. Closing all open applications with the task manager does not help: the G in the top bar and with the signal strength indicator remains on permanently.

The only way I can seem to end the GPRS connection, is to restart the device. Can the connection be closed by any other means?

On the C500 pressing and holding the home key brings up a menu with disconnect GPRS as an option but I believe that is part of Orange's custom ROM.

If that doesn't work (it doesn't on the SMT5600) then the only other option is to go into flight mode which will disconnect you or turn the phone off.

In theory staying connected shouldn't be a problem as you only get charged for data transferred not connection time which is why there is no disconnection option by default. But ......

Good luck :)

Thank you very much Confucious, it works the same indeed on the T-mobile SDA. Wonder why it's mentioned nowhere.... In fact, I get several options, one of which is to disconnect (removes the G from the signal strength indicator but keeps the G in the top bar), the other being to stop GPRS, which closes both icons.

That's interesting - never heard of the "Stop GPRS" option, it's not on the C500/C550. Thanks for letting us know that, you learn something every day.

I forgot to say welcome to the forums by the way! :)
