That's closer to what handsets actually cost - remember when you get a "free" phone, the network are buying it from the manufacturer for you in return for you signing up for a 12 month contract.

It wouldn't surprise me if these prices are still subsidised by Orange, since they hope to get call revenue even from PAYG users without contract.

£150 is not bad for a £200 handset

But it's a Motorola.......

They'd have to pay me to have one of those! :)

Pay As You Go is like that. As has already been said there's far less subsidy from the mobile service provider. Nothing new either as I remember a few years back when the Nokia 3210 was still the phone to have (before I'd heard of a smartphone anyway) it cost me almost £100 as I wasn't willing to sign a contract.

Cors there's been a bit of inflation since but I'd say £150 was good for a state of the art Smartphone like the C550.
