Guest DancingMatt Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 Hi So I've always loved the way on my original SPV and current E200 that T9 was used to "dial" a contact, and then using left and right you could hop between all the numbers stored for them, including "SMS". You just clicked on that and were straight into a text message addressed to them. Much quicker than making a new message - text - clicking on To: - finding the contact - inserting their number. But when I tried out an M500 in an Orange shop, I found the dialler just works for work mobile and home numbers to call? So you can't quickly "dial" a text anymore? Is that right or can it be changed in a setting somewhere? And if it is right, and I think a big step backwards if so, then can you still assign speeddials to "SMS numbers"? I used to have say 5 call a friend's mobile and 55 to bring up a text to them. If neither of these work, how do you quickly address a text message? Always admired the SPV series for giving you this quick way to bring up contact to call, or text, or email for that matter, and wondered why no one else ever did it. Will be considerably put off the M500 if it doesn't do it anymore... Thanks DM
Guest chucky.egg Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 I agree - T9 contact searching is great On the M500 you can use T9 to find a contact, and left/right moves between their numbers, but to send an SMS you have to click "Tools" then "Send Text Message" Another alternative is to use the great freeware D9 (although it could do with a bit more error checking!). D9 works almost the same as the normal phone dialler, but with bigger buttons and vibration feedback (which is neat). Left/Right to choose the number and there's a "Text" button to open a new SMS with that contacts mobile number already inserted. In some ways the M500 isn't as good as a phone "out of the box" but I've found that there's enough 3rd party software (much of it free) to get the functionality you want.
Guest maxwell_hung Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 You don't need to click tools from the contacts menu to send them a message. Highlight the contact you want and hold down the centre button, the context menu will apear and you can choose to send a text message from there. All can be done with one hand, well pressing the send button is a bit tricky but... HTH
