Guest Broward954 Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Ok, just a little backstory :) Just recently hurricane Katrina came through and knocked out the power for several days, unabling me to recharge my phone. This morning when I woke up, I saw an alert about the battery and then the phone died. Once my power was turned back on, I plugged in the charger and left the phone alone for a bit Okay. So after about an hour or so, I returned the phone and booted it up normally. Once the home screen loads up, I press ANY button on the phone and the phone displays the shutdown notice and it goes blank, leaving the keypad lit up. If I take out the battery and put it back in, the phone automatically boots up and the same thing occurs. Any idea what could be causing this? I'm not looking forward to doing a hard reset
Guest Confucious Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 Not sure that a hard reset will help. Yuo should NEVER let your battery go completely flat and, although I've not seen this behaviour before, I should imagine that's what's happened. If that's the only damage caused by Katrina it seems you got off pretty lightly, if not then add a new phone battery to your insurance claim! Either way I think your battery is FUBARed! Good luck.
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 (edited) What you need to do is to remove the battery, plug your power lead in, then try to boot off the mains. If its your battery's problem, the phone should boot, if its a bug, then your phone will keep doing it. In which case you should download a backup tool, to backup your entire phone and then hard reset. In my opinion, I would say when it drained out last time, by turning off in such a manner it has corrupted some files on your phone. But try the power lead thing. Note: These backup tools such as xBackup & SpriteBackup are essential for windows mobile devices, firstly for when you need to hard reset (bugs as usuall), and secondly for Pocket PCs when your stranded without a charger and your battery goes, everything is wiped. Let me know how it goes, Oliver Edited August 28, 2005 by Xenzo1990
Guest Confucious Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 Interesting thought Xenzo but have you actually tried it? Without a battery plugging in the charger on my old C500 has no effect. You can't boot without the battery in. As for backup tools, well, the only time I had to do a hard rest on my C500 in the past year was shortly after I got it when I was playing with everything and I'm sure the C550 will be the same. All my contacts are backed up to outlook, the programs are on the memory card and I back up my start menu. Har dresets are so rare that if I did have to do one I'd just take the oporunity of starting from scratch, if somethings gone wrong so you need a hard reset then chances are your registry is "dirty" anyway. I'm not saying people shouldn't buy a backup program, lots of people swear by them, just I never have. :)
Guest Broward954 Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Thanks for the advice and concerns I appreciate it very much! :) This is my first Windows mobile device / PDA-esque device so I guess I could just chalk this up as a learning experience. I'm more than likely going to backup the phone and contact Audiovox warranty department about this, as I was advised to while talking to customer service. I tried booting off the charger but nothing happened. And a hard reset is out of the picture due to the self restarting as soon as I insert the battery. I'm going to attempt some other method but it looks like I'm stuck for now. Thanks again for the help!
Guest Broward954 Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Well, I just now decided to turn on my phone and it uh... works. Color me surprised LOL. I just hope it doesn't happen again... I'm going to back it up anyways. If this happens to anyone esle, don't fret... It's not the end :)
