Internet connection fix..

I don't know if many of you know about this already, but i thought i should let you know.

All of the changes below take place in the Settings > Data Connections control panel.

1) Change the "Internet Connection" spinner to Automatic

2) Menu > Edit Connections

3) Open the Dial-Up Connections (choose edit on the Edit Connections screen)

4) Edit "Orange CSD WAP" and change it so it connects to "WAP Network".

Press done twice to get back to the list of connection types.

5) Open the GPRS Connections

6) Edit "Orange WAP" and change it so it connects to "WAP Network". Press

done to save the change, then the home key to leave the control panel.

Thanks to Neil Emms at Microsoft for the definitive instructions here.

You may need to also do this....

1) On your PC - open ActiveSync.

2) Click Options

3) Click "Rules" and ensure that the Pass-Thru is set to use the Internet

The phone - when ON the cradle - will successfully use your PC's Internet Connection (ideal if you have a fast connection), and will connect successfully when OFF the cradle to the GPRS.

I'd noticed the bug, its a shame there isn't a faster interface on the SPV though to use my 2meg connection to its full potencial

(cheers for passing on the info though, i was getting fed up of constantly changing the settings back and fourth ;))

I've followed the procedure above - linking to my .5Mb adsl but phone still follows slow "dialling..." procedure.

Is this normal ?

cheers

No, it should connect without any dialling.

Try the procedure again, perhaps you missed something.

Here in the U.S., I just put it on 'automatic' and it works. I only have GPRs set-up on the phone, no wap or CSD. When I have it on the cradle it connects to my broadband connection, and when off the cradle, it connects via GPRS.

Just a quick question on this. :?: Does this make the GPRS connection faster? Will this stop the media player buffering every 5 secs?

No, it doesn't have any effect on GPRS speed, all it does is allow you to bypass GPRS when docked and use your computer's internet connection.

what will stop media player buffering every 5 seconds then - if not connection to a fast line ?

seems like media player is never gonna work.

confused!!

Yeah, it should solve that problem in that case. I don't see why you'd want to, unless your PC didn't have a soundcard. The audio quality of this phone is dreadful, so you'd be much better listening on the PC in the first place!

its not that I want to use my phone 4, indeed, anything when plugged into my computer - just want to verify that things like streaming media would work under ideal circumstances !

I can't test myself as, even with all above settings, my phone still insists on dialling out !

Has anyone gotten this to work with ATTWS USA? I only have mMode (proxy) and AWS GRPS as options in my phone. Nothing under dial-up, etc. If someone could help me, this may be what I've been searching for all along. THANKS!

I just set all the data connections to Automatic and I've never had a problem; it always uses pass-through in the cradle (or when connected via bluetooth - great in the garden 8) ), GPRS if available when out of the cradle and finally will dial-up if there's no GPRS (UK orange) :P

I can't get this to work. My PC accesses the internet via a proxy while at work. Is this likely to be the reason why I can't get my phone to connect to the internet via my PC?

I haven't tried this at home yet.
