Would you be interested in a Virtual Pet?

muff and I have been chatting over the past few days - over curry and beer no less - about the possibility of creating a Virtual Pet for Smartphone / Pocket PC.

Whenever people talk about these on the forum, there seems to be a fair amount of interest... so here is your chance to let us know if you could use one!

Depends on the pet and how much time it would want from me, what would be good would be the Good Vs Bad ethic of the Black and white series crossed with nintendogs (but not with dogs).

So what you would end up with would be a creature that if treated well (pampered and loved) would be some sort of sweetness and light angelic thing, but treated badly (mine would get so many beatings!!) would be some sort of demonic deranged freak.

My daughter is always on about this and from memory there has always been a mixed responce to this topic. It's always good for a laugh as long as it has a pause feature as the newer units have.

But if we are talking about the ill conceived tamagotchi rubbish (needing constant attention, needing to be fed, waking me up) then I would just end up dropkicking my M500 out the window!! (and there not cheap you know). :evil:

yeah, DEFINATELY needs some kind of hibernate feature. My kids would love this, but when I'm at work I don't need something wanting me to feed it in the middle of a meeting!

Yes of course, I have an army of slave hamsters at home as we speak, dressed in little loincloths, being driven by whips building me a hamster sized pyramid where one day I plan to be buried as their god and go on to the after life.

I think it would be one of those things that you play with for five minutes and then it just gets annoying.

You'd have to come up with a pretty unique twist on all the other virtual pets out there to make it worth while.

I'd be mildly interested, but (having a violent nature) I'd like some sort of fighting option. It'd be cool to dismember your friends pet after they'd spent ages training it up.

What about something like Tamagotchi-meets-Top Trumps?

you know what would be neat? If it somehow tied in with your MoDaCo profile - it could upload its vital statistics to MoDaCo and we could see at a glance how everyone's pet was getting on. Maybe you could train your pet up to take part in online events!

Not really all that interested in the classic sense of the pet. It would be something I would try but probably not keep on my phone.

Now if you put a different spin on it, I wouldnt mind. Like other functions. It could be contained within a screensaver with a clock. Maybe it could talk to me an announce my emails or appointments.

Or....could it be like the old palm pilot pets from eruptor:

i'd like the idea if you had bluetooth functionality - so you can have ur pets play or fight (my preference) with other pets. Maybe even have ur pets physically appear on each other's screens when playing or fighting each other.

Its a good idea.. but who are you aiming it for? most people here are well above 18 @least so i personaly dont see myself playing with a virtual pet.

If my kid (if i did have one atm) wanted it i still doubt i would get it for them, one slip of the button, crazy gprs bills here i come...
