If you want a mobile that works as a home phone, look at the new BT product but as 99% of the worlds mobile users have some kind of deal including minutes or cheaper calls that landline, I cant see this being a viable product. I suppose you could pair your phone with your laptop or pc as an audio gateway device and use your phone has a headset then use your pc's modem to dial a pstn line, that would work

I could have one hand set rather than two then. I have to have a land line for my adsl so ...... I spose it is a bit like the new BT products coming but seeing as we have VOIP I thought some one must have thought of this. Terran
Guest poulidis Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Nice idea. I haven't searched for something like that, but it is the first time I have heard it. I think it would be difficult for someone to develop software for this kind of thing, whereas tetstb's idea seems more real.
Guest thebeachbum Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 for me, something like this would be really useful (although itll never be done cos i cant code it and its a limited market :o) since at uni i get free internal calls from my room phone, but it would be easier if i could use a smartphone - bluetooth - pc - modem - phone concept since then i could make free calls from anywhere in bluetooth range. bit of a pipedream i think but... using a smartphone as a skype-stylee handset? surely plenty of people would use that
Guest beersoft Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 you can do it, but its easier with isdn you need something like this http://www.eicon.com/worldwide/products/Me...rver-analog.htm plugged into a server running http://www.swyx.com /me thinks of the cool robotwoman style voice menu he would have on his home phone later Owen
Guest thebeachbum Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 whoa holy poo batman, £720! i think it would be cheaper to stick with ordinary mobile calls ¬_¬ would there be any way of using a smartphone as an interface with skype or msn or whatever, i.e. just as a mic/speaker if that makes any sense. as in just to make calls to people using skype on their pc (for free) or msn?
