How to LOCK A NETWORK?

I have the American Audiovox SMT5600 phone, but I got it when AT&T was not with Cingular. I can choose a network, have it set, when i have no service and can get AT&T and Cingular but its called 31401 or something. How do I lock it on Cingular because i dont get good reception on AT&T's band where i live now and only want the cingular band.

Matt.. I want to know the answer to this question too except I want to be able to select t-mobile and lock to them as they have better coverage in my area then the cingular towers do.
