M2000 not syncing all contacts

I have an M2000. For a while all was fine. I could sync at home, I could synch at work. Then one bright sunny day I noticed that all contacts from t - z had dissapeared. Hmmn strange I thought. Checked on Outlook and they had disappeared from there too. OK no worries, I had backed up outlook, Phew!

Put the phone in the cradle. Oops bye bye there they go again.

Right hard reset time. that will sort it.

Reload software, right then here we go. Start syncing, yippeee t-z still there. Pause, confused look on face, expression of disbelief. Now I have lost a - e.

All suggestions gratefully received

I did update my Rom to this. RUU_v2.2OrangeUK_v5.31.1.162.ship.exe

and have encountered no problems that I know of with it and am not sure if this is connected.
