When i first tried the c500 I just couldn't believe that a basic function of an alarm fails to work when the phone is off, i heard this would be fixed in a next release or software upgrade etc. I cannot understand why even now in the c550 this doesn't work unless the phone is SWITCHED ON !! To add further you have to navigate through umpteen rabbit warens to get to it - this has got to be a joke, not much of a smartphone - to rub salt in, the phone displays the alarm when the it is switched back on again some 3 hours later - hardly useful. Can anyone advise if there is a way round the alarm functioning when the phone is switched off and an alarm has been set ? I have ordered one of these but would hate to send it back because of this, but odd as it sounds it's a major requirement - I certainly am not leaving a phone switched on all night.

No change to the functionality I'm afraid - C550 has to be On for the alarm to function. This has been a requested feature since the original SPV but, as you say, still not implemented. I guess it's due to the way the OS works. However, it is frustrating - I'd happily settle for a clock/alarm separate from the OS. I guess this could be achieved by strapping a Casio to the back :)

My workarounds:

- a watch

- having a nice lie-in

- iPod alarm

- alarm clock

- wake-up call (if in hotel obviously)

- being late for work

- use the C550 alarm, but turn the radio off so no calls/SMS's disturb my precious sleep (there are programs out there that will do this automatically at a specified hour (and turn it back on later))

Take a look at CityTime Alarms to make the alarm more easily accessible and much more flexible. You will still need to leave the phone on though. I work around this by putting the phone into Flightmode so it won't receive calls or messages.

Welcome to the site :)

The phone requires the OS to activate the alarm, when you turn the phone off you turn off the OS. Unlike a PPC the phone does not hibernate.

For quick access to the alarm try this free app from the download section.

Not sure four key presses can really be discribed as umpteen rabbit warrens though :-k

anyone know how to make the alarm repeat until I press snooze or dismiss?

I haven't been around these forums for ages, but I think there's a regtweak (in .cab format) on www.customcabbage.co.uk for looping the alarm.

I can handle the fact that the alarm wont work when the phone is switched off.

Also i can handle the way the navigation to set the alarm is a long process and that it changes with every smart phone release.

But what really get me is the snooze feature.

Who the hell can snooze for 5mins, I need 10 otherwise i'm cranky for the whole day.

In the 23 years i've been about, never have i come a cross an alarm that only allows you to snooze for 5mins. Even as a kid my parents would give me more than 5mins.

Currently using C500 only 5 more days before upgrade to the M500, and a bright new future.

If anyone know if this can be altered for either devices let me know.

Cheers
