Guest ayandyan Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) I think my Smart Amazing Phone version 1 operating system (Windows Mobile 2002) is wearing out. So, im planning to format it and install the Windows Mobile 2003 since i can't find any free dowloadable 2002 version (on second thought, do u know of any?). They say Windows 2003 may run on an SPV1 but has not been tested yet. Nevertheless, Do i have to first format it and install the new OS? or could I just directly install the new OS and it will just automatically format the phone? I have my phone cable and the Microsoft Active Sync software. How do I format my phone, if necessary?and how do i install the OS.thank u very much! Edited September 1, 2005 by ayandyan
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Welcome to the site :) Do not even bother trying to install 2003 on your phone. First of all the OS was never released to the public and as such will make your phone run slower. Secondly the it takes up too much sytem memory and the only version around is a beta so it is very limited in what it can do. Finally installation of 2003 on the Tanager\Canary models is not straight forward, if you do not know what you are doing don't even attempt it as any mistakes can end you up with a dead phone. If you really want to install it don't pay for a copy as anyone selling it did not pay for it in the first place. Moved to Help and Advice
Guest Tech Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 agreed with awarner but also - the OS's are only available through the network provider but they install it themselves dependin on the req of the phone and never given to the customer for obvious reasons you may wish to talk to your network provider on re-installing the OS (2002)/sending it for repair, which should be included in your warrentee/cover in the contract (if it is still valid) :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 SMART do have updates for your phone but if you aer not using a SMART SIM their updates will relock the SIM to their network.
