C500 hard resets itself at switch on...

I've got a C500 and, well, a couple of times at switch on it has reset itself.

It loses all the installed apps, all of the settings and the fact that it's application unlocked.

It keeps text messages and the T9 dictionary.

I've got the latest ROM upgrade from Orange, but am on the O2 network.

I am a Sagittarius with brown eyes.

Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like the phone has had a partial reset which is basically the registry repairing itself after it detects a problem ie corruption in it's settings. things to do are,

1, Check the state of your battery and make sure it stays topped up.

2, When installing your apps etc make a note when this problems happens incase you have a dodgy piece of software causing your registry to become corrupt.

3, not writing in coloured big letters as it does not help your post :) ;)

My c500 went through a stage of doing that till a just gave up, about a month ago, and decided not to bother installing a backup, as it just seems to cause the problem.

So I figured that one of my apps on the backup must be causing it to reset. Screw it, I have an m500 and im happy now :)

I'm back! I hate it when life gets in the way and stops me maintaining my SPV...

If it is a dodgy app that's causing me grief, I don't think I would be able to pinpoint which one... I think I might go for a "workaround" - ie I'll back up my phone and accept that it will sometimes die on me. :?: Or perhaps I should making all my posts green? :??:

What's the best back up app? Sprite?

(Of course another workaround would be for Xenzo to give me his/her M500...)

Have you tried doing a proper Hard Reset and startng again? It might just cure the problem but I think the real problem is that you are a sagittarius with brown eyes....

I started getting this reset problem after I installed the ROM update, so it was a hard reset that caused the problem in the first place. I might try it though...

To find out if any specific apps might be causing it, I'm asking in this post about my installed apps if any of the following apps are known to cause problems of any kind:

Surreal Start

Smartphone Find

Smart Explorer

Papyrus

Bejewelled

Jewel Master

Super Slyder

Ruttensoft Homescreen Designer (with Oxios task plugin)

Question is, is it worth using Sprite backup to take a complete backup of the phone if it's a software problem that will be duplicated, backed up and reinstalled?

Cheers,

They are all quality tried-and-tested products so I would suggest your problem is to do with installing everything onto the phone memory. The phone will fall over when internal memory gets too low so it is always best to install things to the storage card.

You should also keep homescreens, ringtones & messages to a minimum.

I usually avoid the word 'gay' as I worry about coming across as homophobic, which I'm not, but I'm at a loss for an alternative way of describing your formatting :( :o

Thanks - Unfortunately many of my apps refuse to install on my mem card, but I'll move as much as I can...

I dislike people guessing at assumptions about my sexual orientation. And so does my boyfriend. And our live-in lover, Rover.

Your description of my formatting as being 'gay' made me laugh, but I don't think that a different, purple font is the most showy/flamboyant/gay/ostentatious/attention-grabbing formatting... (Unless our computers are displaying it very differently?)

A guy at work used to be an accountant for the Government "a few decades ago". He said that it would be frowned upon if someone in the office wore a suit that was anything other than black or dark grey. He said even a "very dark blue or green suit would raise eyebrows".

So there you go.

The colour is more of a pink on my screen really but I didn't mean to suggest this inferred anything to do with your sexual orientation, more that it was just plain wrong, hence my worries about semantics. Ultimately though I'm just joshing you rather than getting all chromafascist (chromatanazi ?) on your ass.

Oh dear...

I've never had any problems installing software to the storage card so wonder if the card itself is large enough.

Also, I can confirm that black or grey suits are still the only acceptable options in the accountancy profession. And quite right too

I agree with stu...as exceeding internal memory will cause a crash. Also when using a lot of different programs, they recommend keeping the ones you are frequently using installed, and uninstall anything you don't use. As far as the ROM update...that's NOT the cause of the problem as myself and hundreds, maybe thousands by now have that update....as long as it IS the proper update from the orange site.

Gah!

This morning - after an extended boot time - I go the "Cold boot config" message.

Previously I was unable to save apps onto my miniSD card. (I think it must have been full of mp3s). I thought my probs had been sorted I deleted a couple of mp3s and was then able to (uninstall from the internal phone memory and) save apps onto the card.

I'll try installing the Sprite backup software recommended in an earlier post, but I think that I'm just delaying the inevitable. All I'll be going is taking a copy of a faulty setup on my phone, copying it to my PC, waiting for a cold boot config reset and then re-copying over the faulty data, setting myself up for another crash...

Note the horrible dull font to mark my mood as someone who's fighting a losing battle against a phone that wants to crush me... (or even better: :-({|=)

PS - Who won the the C550 from the London/Modaco meet up ages ago?

That is a problem with backup software. You would only benefit once you have a stable phone with most software installed to the memory card. In a crisis you would then really appreciate having a backup.

If you have followed the cold boot (hard reset) procedure you should have a nice clean device to work with again.

Note the horrible dull font

Would you like me to check out opportunities in the accountancy profession for you ? You may be ready now...
