Guest jscotl Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 What's the Total Memory for the Orange M500 :??: I thought it was around 128MB  My m500 reports the following: Tot 57.41mb Storage card 7.60mb But.... I do have a storage card (What or where is this?) Is my m500 missing some memory
Guest skaramanga Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Surely you have found the storage card?!
Guest jscotl Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 The card slot is holding the plastic "filler" provided with the m500 - I have no storage card in the slot. Also, popping that battery out does not reveal anything other than the SIM Unless there's another secret place :??:
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) Basically your M500 has 64mb of RAM. This RAM is used for loading programs, but it is also used for storing files. That is why if power is cut (removing battery) your files go, because RAM, unlike Flash Memory (In c500 & C550s) requires constant power. We usually think of RAM as used in our computers to allow us to Multitask and run lots of programs at the same time. But in the m500, aswell as using it to run programs, the device stores things on the RAM. On the m500, the 64mb of RAM is broken down into 3 parts. See Start -> Settings -> System -> Memory to change the allocation for each part. Program Memory - The Memory the phone needs to use to load applications. File Memory - This is where installed files go. Storage - This is a separate 7mb of RAM that is available for storing photos, and other such files. Edited September 1, 2005 by Xenzo1990
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) No, it won't The SD slot in the top is the only expansion slot there is. There are some models of the iMat eJAM that have 128Mb. The M500 comes with 64Mb, and mine reports 57Mb (Memory) + 7Mb (Storage) the same as yours You're going to need an SD card if you don't already have one, and I'd suggest yuou get a Mini-SD or Micro-SD for future proofing. There is also a trick that lets you not install all the Orange junk, which frees up loads of memory. To do this (careful - you'll lose all data and have to re-sync to get it back!) you do a Hard Reset, then once you've done the screen calibration do a Soft Reset before the Today screen appears. Another good tip is to get the cabinstl app (www.freecabs.de) as this lets you choose where to install apps to - you can use Storage until you have a memory card and free up even more program memory. Guest jscotl Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Thanks to both Xenzo1990 & chucky.egg 8) chucky.egg, RE: The option to avoid the "Orange Junk".... ... Once I do this, can I revert back to "Orange Junk" if I decide I want it :??: eg. Repeat the Hard Set, calibrate, Soft Reset options
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Yeah, you can revert, it doesn't change anything at all it just stops the installation process that would otherwise have eaten 20Mb of your device! But... (you knew there was one, right?) you have to do a Hard Reset to do it which wipes your entire device. So do a backup first!
