Guest bretto Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Hi All I just upgraded my ROM to 1.12 which appears to be faster and more stable?? Was happy using 1.03 which came with the Jam as I was not experiencing any problems or instability but upgraded to the latest O2 ROM which is 1.11 because I was having problems getting my Jam to recognise my new SD card. The whole time I had 1.11 on the device I was getting lockups, slow performance and general instability so I went to downgrade until I saw 1.12 over at xda-developers which of course I just had to try out. Since putting 1.12 on the Jam I seem to have a stable device again but as a byproduct everything appears to be running faster??? Of course the crap applications that I try out are still crap but they crap out faster :) Anyone else experienced this?
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I doubt it's the 1.12 ROM. The iMate release has always been perfectly stable on my Jam. Have you installed the official version or a modified one ? Any other dodgy customisation ? Is xda-developers a recognised distributor of stable ROMs ? :)
Guest SO3 Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 (edited) More to the point, if one can be exused, is there a very simple, easy to follow, guide? I so want/need to do the same for my compact? Thanks in advanced. EDIT: quote of initial post removed - please don't quote unnecessarily Edited September 4, 2005 by SO3

Thanks in advanced. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Installing a rom intended for another device involves some risk to the device (and would likely invalidate any warranty). We don't recommend trying it.
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Installing update ROMs is not particularly difficult and is not dissimilar to loading anything else with a PC installer. Your manufacturer / operator will provide a pretty thorough guide alongside the ROM download to cover their own rear-ends. Both will be hosted on their own websites. Have you checked for updates recently ?
Guest SO3 Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I have found t-mobile not to be particular useful, be it their web site or customer support! :o

I grabbed an Orange 1.12 ROM and it sorted things out. Not wanting to keep using the Orange ROM I grabbed the official Imate 1.12 ROM (because I have an Imate also) and replaced the extended_rom with the o2 1.11 one (one.1one 1...you know) so now my o2 mini is effectively a 1.12 o2 device which is ticking along nicely.
Guest Disco Stu Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Was wondering where you'd got to, Bretto... :o So we're agreed that the 1.12 ROM is the best, regardless of who issued it ? Point is, have T-Mobile issued a 1.12 version so that SOE can share in the goodness ?
Guest lrowland Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I have a 1.11 Vodafone branded 'VPA Compact', i can't find ANYTHING on their site at all... Even registering on their site they don't list the thing, their site is useless!!! Does anyone know of anyway to get a 1.12 for the VPA ??? Thanks in advance.
Guest bretto Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 (edited) Still here Stu but for some reason reply notification emails are a bit intermittent. I absolutely agree with you that 1.12 is the most stable, Im loving mine thus far :o I think 1.11 might be a dud (at least for me) but unfortunately not everyone has released 1.12 yet. As far as I know many of the carriers are installing 1.12 if you send your device off to the service centre but they have not released it on their web sites. Although a fair guess would be if they are installing in the service centre then the general release cant be too far away?!? Dont hold me to that because you know I will plead insanity if it doesnt happen. I dont know about tmobile but hang in there if its not out it wont be far away. Edited September 5, 2005 by bretto
Guest bretto Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Just spotted this... ROM UPDATE: T-Mobile Germany released new MDA compact ROM with web'n'walk support Posted by Arne Hess - at Friday, 01.07.05 - 09:33:32 under 2 - Pocket PC News - Viewed 2062x Today, T-Mobile Germany has released the latest ROM for their MDA compact (aka HTC Magician) which is based on the latest available ROM code (including the long awaited ROM 1.12 GER and Radio 1.12) and which is preconfigured to T-Mobile's new web'n'walk service (which gives you direct access to the real Internet instead of T-Mobile's walled garden'd t-zones WAP portal). It's the same (latest) ROM code also O2 Germany uses for its lately released Xda mini. Last but not least it also includes a new E-Mail wizard which makes E-Mail configuration easier. The new ROM (please keep in mind, it's for German T-Mobile MDA compacts only) can be downloaded for free from T-Mobile's website. http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2489
Guest amartin13 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 He Guys, Does Anyone have an orange rom update to v1.12? i'm on 1.06, which puts me a little behind - i'm trying to sort out some bluetooth issues with my M500, and suspect that i'll need to change ROMs to resolve them. Basically i want to remove the Microsoft Bluetooth stack and replace with Widcomm, can this be done? Cheers
Guest bretto Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Basically i want to remove the Microsoft Bluetooth stack and replace with Widcomm, can this be done? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes it can be done but its a very step by step process and the results vary depending on what version of the widcomm stack you get. Do a google search for the info if your keen.

Guest bretto Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 2 weeks and still not one hiccup with the 1.12 ROM. Now I can say for sure that it is stable. Im guessing Ill never have to hardreset this device for any fault of its own :o
Guest thefrisch Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Can somebody please point me to the 1.12 ROM for i-mate? I've tried registering my phone on clubimate a week ago to try and download from there, but my account is stuck in "Guest" mode, so i can't access anything on their site. So, also, does anyone have any way to contact clubimate besides the one email address i found, which still haven't received a response from?
Guest bretto Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Can somebody please point me to the 1.12 ROM for i-mate? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you cant get it from club-imate you can try xda-developers.com . Got to download it from their ftp site. It will be under the magician directory structure.
