Guest whirlypig Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I chose the SPV because I wanted a GPRS phone to use as a modem for my laptop when I'm on the move/in hotels/etc. I used to use a Nokia 8210 and GSM which was slow but did the trick, not great for browsing though. I've found using a GPRS connection is a bit quicker for email and browsing on the laptop but I've been charged £60 for going over the Access Pack limit (I'm going to request a credit re the misleading T&Cs). I don't use the news/downloads or anything else Internet related. I only use GPRS for modem access which isn't really practical given the charging mechanism. Therefore when I query my GPRS bill I'm going to ask that they terminate the service and I'll go back to GSM usage and pay for call time. Will I lose any other features by ditching the "data" services? In fact the only reason I'm hanging on to the SPV for now is that it makes a great MP3 player in the car.
Guest Firaas Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Ring 156 and ask the advisor to refer to their legal department, you should get an immediate refund. With regards to whether or not you should ditch it, I'd recommend that you'd keep it until Orange throw you off for overusing - £6/10mb's a hard deal to find these days...
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 As for connectivety i think you loose MSN messenger and thats about it. You "should" be ok to continue using the SPV as a modem/dialer. I'd double check when you call OCS though.
Guest Bazz Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Unfortunately the modem drivers supplied on the CD aren't working and we've no update on when they will be fixed. So you can't use the SPV for normal data calls at the mo as far as I am aware. Those that did get it working have had loads of cut off issues. Also, while you are paying for the "unlimited" offer you should play around with some of the stuff. The SPV orange-today site is particularly good for footy results and cinema info. You might find it more useful than you thought... but then you also might get addicted to it and spend a fortune! IMHO the best bits of the phone are in the the connectivity with GPRS (full web browsing, MS Messenger, E-mail). The phone's got a few flaws, but this makes up for it. However if you are just using it as a modem I'm not sure the phone is worth the effort, even with the MP3 Player...
Guest ajb3000 Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Can't you access Messenger via CSD?
