Help! Cracked screen cover (C500)

Hi, this is my fisrt post on the forum! I've been a lurker for a while but diaster has struck my poor little C500 and I decided the time had come to sign up and ask for help!

I'm not sure how it happened but while I was out today and my phone was in my pocket and when I went to use it a whopping great crack has appeared on the plastic cover over the LCD screen, running from the bottom centre (near the "rocker") up and to the left for about half the screen. :shock:

Thankfully the LCD itself is completely uneffected, it is litterally just the outer casing, but although the screen is still completely useable I can't live with a big crack in the screen!

So I'm here to ask for help/advice on the best way of fixing it? Are the clear plasic covers easy to replace? I've got the silver model not the black, so I don't want to replace the whole case, unless there are silver covers available. I've tried ebay but unlike Nokia and Samsung phones there aren't any covers available for the SPV C500 :o

Would it be simpler to take it to my local Orange store? How much would they charge (I bought it second hand and use my Orange PayG card not a contract), would they even bother doing it since I'm not on a contract? Are the cases/screens available to buy somewhere?

Any help or advice would be grately appreciated, surely I'm not the first person this has happened to!

Try www.htceurope.com I seem to remember them offering a complete refurb of the outer casing for £28 (ish)

Hello,

www.htceurope.com would be your best bet, or you can buy a fascia or dummy phone off ebay (will be black though ) and swop it yourself, but you'll loose any remaining warranty you have left on the phone. From what I've seen you can't just swop the plastic screen section, it's a swop-the-whole-fascia type job. But you'll join the elite members of the 'fully-black-c500-club' of which I am a member, as well as the just as exclusive fully silver.... (I had one of both and swopped them so the middle sections matched :o

Just a thought - silver version = orange premier customer = orange care insurance, do you still have it on your account? £15 fee and they courier one out to you.

Having got a new M500 i have passed my old c500 onto a friend and introduced him to the smartphone revolution.

One problem is the c500 is battle scarred and needs a refurb. I've just looked at the htc website and the can only repair SPV's still in warranty which i pressume has expired along with my contract.

Can the people at HTC be sweet talked round to refurbing phones out of warranty??

Is there anything else i can do???
