Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I've posted below an updated 'MoDaCo Member Map' for the UK - this is a plot of member's locations as entered in the 'PostCode' profile field on the forum (this is an optional field). Along these lines, I have been considering for a while the concept of 'MoDaCo Local Events', and i'd like to hear your thoughts. National MoDaCo Events happen a couple of times a year, but I would love to see MoDaCo'ers get together more frequently than this, say, once a month. This would be cool because a) it's great to be sociable, it's great to meet face to face and chat with like minded people and c) it would help people at the National Event as they would know some people already :o The way I envisage it would work is that a member volunteers to be a co-ordinator for their area (anywhere in the world)... e.g. I might volunteer to run a MoDaCo Local Event for the Norwich, UK area. As a 'MoDaCo Local Co-Ordinator', my details would be posted in a relevant area on the site, so members in the locality could make contact. I would probably also have a dedicated area to post information about my Local Events, post-event pictures, reports etc. I would possibly be given a method to automatically contact (on a once only basis and subject to normal forum contact preferences) members who had entered a postcode within x miles of my chosen location (i.e. Norwich, UK). I would then organise these monthly events by designating a location and perhaps a chat topic, get everyone together, and generally ensuring everyone haves a great time! The MoDaCo team would liaise with these Local Event Co-Ordinators to assist where necessary, put in guest appearances perhaps, arrange guest speakers if requested, and other such things. That's my idea... tell me what you think! P PS If anyone is interested in being a Local Event Co-Ordinator and would like to see a more detailed member map of their local area, just post here, and i'll try and upload. :(
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 As an aside, if you haven't entered your postcode in your profile already, consider doing so! :o Click 'My MoDaCo' at the top of any page to update your details. P
Guest mike-oh Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Sounds like a soupoyb idea! If no-one else volenteers for the Leeds area then i may volenteer as co-ordinator.
Guest beersoft Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 im always up for a milton keynes meet, off the top of my head there are at least 10 of you, and im sure we could find a pub to sit in :o later Owen
Guest Alsicole Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I'd be interested in a meet for Staffordshire/North West, as would Mr B. If there was enough interest we might also get some of the other Smartphone/PPC owners from Astraware.

Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Right, i'll start arranging how this is going to work then :o P
Guest dazza12 Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 And I might be able to chip in for the Somerset area.
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I think it's a good idea. I am based in Portsmouth/Hampshire. I would definitely consider being a co-ordinator for my area, but on the condition that there are maybe two or three co-ordinators in an area, so that all the work doesn't rest on my own shoulders. Maybe take it in turns arranging things or do a group effort, etc.
Guest Gorskar Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I'm probablt not organised enough to arrange meets myself, but if anyone organises meets in or near Manchester I'll happilly attend so long as theres beer to be had :o

With such support I'd be up for getting something going in Cov. Have a look at the 'EyeBall' photos on Airfagev.com for an idea of how they do it over in the Phillipines. Events can be as formal / informal as you like. Looked at another way, I'd be keen to attend a MoDaCo event pretty much anywhere. You might not want me to come to your area, but I'm sure Paul can sort that problem ! :( :o
Guest Pondrew Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 You might not want me to come to your area, but I'm sure Paul can sort that problem ! :P :( <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :o Everyone's welcome in Croydon but would anyone wanna come?! (it's not that bad a place, honest!)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I cant see the amount of users on this side of the atlantic....zoom out! :o
Guest nickcornaglia Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Depending on the frequency of events, should this become a sort of localized user group meeting? Could they be organized on the same night or weekends? If so, maybe they could cover the same topics and then converge ideas back at the site. Would Paul, Will, Ash, Mono, be present at each of the meetings, as a formal representative of Modaco?
Guest TigerNet Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 (edited) ...I'd be happy to help out in SW London...could I get a more detailed map of the London members? Cheers Nick Edited September 5, 2005 by TigerNet
Guest nevawlkalone Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Sounds like a damn good idea. Am a tad young to organise but am defo up for goin!!! :P :o  :| :D :(

Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I would probably try to attend meets outside my own area now and again, and the other guys may or may not choose to do the same, but I would assume in general you wouldn't have a MoDaCo Staffer there most of the time. I'll have a look to see if I can get the member map working for outside the UK! P
Guest ccsnet Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 What genral about areas on the forum in the same format as well. VVOC.com set the same stucture up and it helped to pin 'local' noitices up and for general chats. Terran

Guest tonijj Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I see there's a lack of Swedish locations on that map :o Oh well, great idea though, hope that it develops to a constant thing!
Guest Rob.P Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Paul, what's the concentration of memebers in the Hemel Hempstead/St. Albans area? (Plenty of pubs to meetin @ St. Albans) Considering putting myself forward as a local coordinator.
