Guest crazyea6 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I was wondering if anyone could recommend a free and legal music site. I have been hearing some stuff on a program called Rhapsody 25 and was curious if anyone had tried it. I heard it gives you 25 free streams a month as well as ad free radio. I am wondering about the quality and selection of music as I have had some problems in the past with other programs. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.
Guest fraser Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Anyone thinking of paying money to an online store for music MUST read this article. It explains what rights you don't have with this kind of music, and what will happen if you want to change players, resell your music (i.e. you can't!) or (attempt to) do any number of things that you are legally entitled to. The click-thru signs away a lot of rights. Example: Imagine if Tower Records sold you a CD, but then, a few months later, knocked on your door and replaced the CD with one that you can't play in your car. Would you still feel like you "owned" the CD? Not so much, eh? But Apple reserves the right to change at any time what you can do with the music you purchase at the iTunes Music Store. For instance, in April 2004, Apple decided to modify the DRM so people could burn the same playlist only 7 times, down from 10. How much further will the service restrict your ability to make legal personal copies of your own music? Only Apple knows. http://www.eff.org/IP/DRM/guide/
Guest meathead Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 I can vouch for Rhapsody, crazy. it is free, it's legal, and the quality is really amazingly clear. anyone who is tired of the p2p programs that contain spyware, or hate the fact that it is illegal, should definitely try rhapsody out. you can download the free trial version from rhapsody.com/freemusic
Guest Venice220 Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 (edited) I had not heard of this program before. I tried it out though and it's interesting. Cool that you can listen to 25 free songs each month. The music quality seems really good as well. Edited September 18, 2005 by Venice220
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Not free but you can try http://www.mp3search.ru $0.10 per track (10% discount if you buy an album), perfectly legal and no DRM :o
Guest crazyea6 Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 Thanks for the input as well as the article. I have decided to go ahead and try Rhapsody 25. I liked it so much I decided to get the subscription service. There isnt a big difference besides you have unlimited downloads as well as more stations for the ad free radio. You also get more managing features. They do have a great selection and their quality was better than I expected.
