Are people searching for answers?

Dont want to be a board nazi but I was just wondering if people are searching for answers to their questions before posting a new question.

Seems to be an aweful lot of the same thing in separate posts lately.

If they are then maybe the search function needs attention. Works for me though.

i generally search google for anything smartphone related, the first 5 or 6 hits are always modaco!

Most of the times, I search the fprum first, but most of the threads start like "bluetooth problem" and after 5-6 answers there are only two people fighting over whos device is best, and not about solving the problem.

Yeah, there seems to have been a slight dip in the quality of topic titles lately - and quite a lot of OT stuff

Perhaps Paul could do a weekly digest for us all, just going through everything that's been posted that week and compiling a complete list of suggestions/answers etc :o

Unfortunately it seems to be a bit of a problem throughtout the forums at the moment. It would make sense to use the search function to answer questions as this forum has a wealth of information stored in past posts - but alot of the time people don't seem to realise that they look a bit foolish asking the same questions over & over again. It's often amusing to me how many times I seem to reply to posts about my homescreens where the answer basically is 'read the first post ...'

My own policy on this is to avoid answering questions that have been fequently dealt with, but rather to refer the poster to the search function.

and.....point is....maybe people dont know about the searching feature because they wouldnt be dumb enough to ask the question again, or maybe they just carnt find it.

even if they do ask again so what, iafter all this is Forums, were people help each other with problams and answers, (snip)

That's true - however, when you are looking at the same questions being asked over & over again, it's difficult not to get frustrated. It is standard protocol on any forum to search for previous posts about a topic before making another post. Personally I would be very embarassed to ask a question only to discover that it has been answered before. Yes, we are here to help people, but that doesn't mean we are here to answer the same damn questions over & over again.

Don't forget, some people have been on this forum every day for over 2 years!
