I don't think it's designed to. But am pretty sure it will come off soon.

It can come off, and can be put back on.

Just give it a gentle pull, and twist as you do so and it should pop out.

I removed mine when I got the phone, thinking that it would annoy me, and changed my mind a few days later and put it back on.

Don't pull it sharply, it looks like it might snap if you do.

Yes, it does come out. All it is, is a hole on the phone, in which a piece of rubber which is wider at the tip, sticks through. It is easily pulled out, and can be even easier (in my opinion) pushed back on.

I took mine off out of frustration when I was using both the usb charger and headset at the same time...

kept mine on , it save the phone when i dropped it , maybe its also a dust stopper as well :o

I took it off because it gets in the way of my 2.5mm -> 3.5mm adapter jack.

If I didn't use that, then yeah I would have left it on.

Gave it a test drive at the gym last night,

C550+wmp10 = top mp3 player!

i kept it cos it means i can stand the phone up by resting it against a wall (as in the rubber provides enough resistance to stop it sliding if im none too clear).

ive seen these from various places but wasnt sure if it will fit, since those adapters only have 3 (as opposed to the 4 on the actual plug) contacts, so presumably the mic channel (if thats how it works) will be connected to one channel of audio. now im no expert on electronics..

Yes works fine - the 2 bands are for the left and right channels, the 3rd is for the mic but if you're using standard headphones you won't need it. I've got one - no problems.

EDIT - I'm going to file the plastic from around the plug of the adaptor so it fits better into the recessed hole of the C550 (after you take the stupid plasic cover off) Other than that it works fine
