If you have a swiss spv with the update and you want to unlock it, just do the following steps:

1. Do a hard reset

2. delete the IPSM data

3. reboot your phone

thats it and your phone will be unlocked!

I dont know why it works but it does ;)

do we really want O to see this befor UK update is out??

and what do you mean by IPSM data - the whole folder? or all of its contents??

Sounds great... though I can't try it it as the screen gets stuck (white screen) when I try the hard reset! Anyone had this before?

Keep it on the white/Orange sunset screen for as long as it wants.

It's more than 30 min. and nothing but white screen, and it's heating now... Any clue anybody?

D'oh, great tip but I really wish this wasn't made public before the UK update...

Is it so obvious that maybe it's deliberate?

Making a deliberate certification work around would seem the sensible thing to do!

The vast majority of people wouldn't bother with it, so their phones still only accept certified software = no problems for orange.

The ones who do bother are likely the developers/advanced users, and allowing them to do this will save orange grief from them about the lockdown and lack of support for developing applications on a real phone + these aren't likely to be the users who ring up orange every 2 seconds cause they installed something they dont know how to work on their phone.

As previously mentioned the uncertification trick does not allow radio access privaleges, so orange is still safe from anyone attempting to distribute something malicious.

Seems like a win-win situation to me...

Prob is solved after removing the fake SD'slot... I could reset, but how to know whether it is now unlocked..?

P.S. Am not an advanced user as some might have noticed:)

I have a swiss spv and i can confirm that it doesn't work!!!

I have done a hard reset after having installed the update (to set back my gprs settings) and my phone is still under certification.

I downloaded the Registry Editor Paul mentioned in another thread to check this. As i wanted to start it there was an error-message saying: "This is no regular Windows CE Application".

Thats not a cert issue mate, that means you havnt installed it correctly! If it was a cert issue it would come up "This application does not have a vaild digital signature, please contact your service provide for more infomation" trust me ive seen that enough times!

But it let you install it? If so, that suggests the lock is removed!

It does properly install, but it doesn't work

"This is no regular Windows CE App" (in german)

Yeah well the good news is certification is off on your phone because the PHM registry editor has an "unsigned" cab file and it installed so cert is definately off.

The "this is not a valid wince application" is a completely different issue all together im sure someone else had this problem, try switching the fone on and off.

Id bet the swiss update removes cert from the rom, well it must, since when you update it dosnt completely rework the registry does it?

Paul id add this to you thread "Remove application signing for program development"

I have games installed on my SD card. Sometimes it starts playing up and gives me an error message 'Not a valid WinCE app' or something along the lines.. All I need to do in that case is remove and reinsert the card in my SPV - all works fine then!!

Also, maybe the program makes calls to certain dll's or kernel areas and in the update O decided to close access to those or just block the use of PHM, maybe?

Well, hope to see the same uncert method work after a UK update ;)(
