Guest bamsisgod Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I bought my phone SIM free from motorola 3-4 months ago and I have firmware version 1.280 should i upgrade to 1.43 or 1.47 on the motrola america site or not? could i please have some feedback with users using the more current roms as i have never had problems with my phone and need a worthwhile reason to update the rom like camera fixes and the "so called speaker issue"

However, when you look on the other hand, if you are not that well experienced in flashing ROM's or you're not willing to risk doing it yourself and accidently screwing up your phone, then the best bet would be to download the update tool and update to the 1.43 and stay there until something better comes along. By the way, I had experience with 1.30, 1.43, 3.46, and 3.50. Out of all them, I think 3.46 is where I am going to stay at. 3.50 got on my last nerves and 1.43's "volume fix" wasn't all that cracked up. Edited September 7, 2005 by skippythenurse

I called Motorola and asked about the Windows Mobile 5.0, and they seemed to know absolutely nothing and pointed me to a software update link, which was the exact link the sent me to in June in hopes of fixing my volume problem on the 220. By the way, volume is starting to fade. Gets crackly when volume turned up, which is required to hear many calls. Anyway, saw the posts about the 1.47. Hadn't seen that one before and wondered what it was about. Also, the Asian verions, curious what they offer. Thanks. Eferk.
Guest skippythenurse Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 There probably won't be any Windows Mobile 5.0 update available to the MPx220. That is totally different from the ROMs we're working on. The link they gave you is probably the 1.43 update. That is the "official" ROM supporting the MPx220. The Asian ROM's.....well....they have cool stuff here and there and they also have issues here in there. 3.45 supposedly had a sudden shut-off issue (I never used it, so I don't know for sure). 3.50 (in my own experience) had a GSM icon issue when I used the internet explorer. There is also some bluetooth connectivity issue, I had some myself but not complaining about it. All in all, the asian rom's have finer text, are slightly faster (we're NOT talking lightning fast), have the current, newer Windows Media Player, and more options to tweak around with. 1.43 and beyond all have the nice little bluetooth com port feature. Also, the volume is much better with the Asian ROMs and its easier on the eyes. Honestly, if you're not going to tweak and tweak some more, just get the 1.43 and relax. Because you're gonna mess around for some bit with the Asian ROM's.
