Guest Howski Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 (edited) Hi, Right I have a C500 (fully up to date according to the download manager) and I'm having problems. Sometimes the phone is frozen on the home screen with the keypad locked and will not unlock or do anything. Now the only way I can see around this is pull out the battery and restart it that way (most annoying esp if you lose a vital txt message or data), and sometimes the problem is still there after the restart. Now it has also had this strange problem with it sometimes dialing out. In a nutshell I have sometimes taken my phone out of my pocket to see the 'dialing' screen. Now the keypad is still locked and I dont think that the phone has actually made a call as the name has not popped up (the number is there but not the contact name) and there is no call time. Ok as you all know that I cant make a call with the keypad being locked or make a call and then lock the keypad after with out hanging up. Orange say it must be me pressing the buttons and then locking it and that there is no problem with the phone. SO what I would like to know is: are these common problems? Orange say that they are not common and are saying they will not replace the faulty hand set. I am really worried as I have japanese numbers on my phone and do not want a large bill because there is a problem with my phone and orange refuse to replace it. Cheers in advance. -How. Guest mupwangle Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 I got something similar but that was becasue the left softkey broke. To be honest, if it is locking at random I would say that is a fault and if it is under warranty then you should be able to get it replaced. If you are in the UK then it is covered by the sale of goods act. Basically if your phone is not capable of behaving properly as a phone then you are entitled to a replacement/refund. There is no time limit on that (basically if it does not last a reasonable amount of time. Phones on contract must be working for at least a year on contract - otherwise they are arguably not fit for the purpose) As far as the "pressing buttons and then locking it" thing goes - I would get upset and claim that OCS are being insulting. I doubt that if this was the case then you would be dumb enough to keep doing it. Fair enough if that is their theory - but after they tell you this and it still happens then (unless you are a complete moron) this is unlikely to be the case. I can understand their thinking - go for the most obvious cause of the symptoms but proper troubleshooting means that once you've checked that that is not the cause then you have to look at other causes. If they give you hassle then I would find out the name of a more senior manager/supervisor (ask to speak to them or if not ask for their name and address) and write to them.

Tonight the operator actually said the more times I report faults the longer it will take. I am honestly thinking of filing a bogus theft report. £15 exess is not a lot to pay if my phone is capable of phoning Japan, and I'd get the replacement within 24 hours. The last phone I has was an SPV E200 and I had about 14 replacements within a 5 month period, including 4 in one week. I actually wwnt as far as taking to consumer help. However the contract is not for the phone but the line rental and as long as you can put that sim card somewhere else then you out of luck. Fair enough if that is their theory - but after they tell you this and it still happens then (unless you are a complete moron) this is unlikely to be the case. But like I said it cant be the case the phone is locked with dialing of the screen. This is impossible with the way the phone works. -How.
Guest Tech Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 gladly ive never had these problems but have had those problems on my e200 after a year! when my c500 went for a screen repair 2 months ago (dust issue) i had to use my e200.... it was charging up whilst it was upstairs and I was downstairs for 3/4 hours went upstairs and saw that it had dialed an international number automatically!!! call lasting 15 mins! if i press the hangup key it wouldnt respond but would still keep the counter going in the end.. take out the battery and put it back in whilst complaining to orange luckily there was no bill for that incident other times it would randomely send a text msg back to me but from one of my contacts names! sorry... C500 problems that your having have happened on my E200 lol
Guest Honest John Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Every now and again, my C500 locks and I have to renew my aquaintance with the battery. Not very often, but maybe every 3 weeks or so. I have had the phone since December 2004, and it doesn't really cause me sufficient grief to do anything about it.
Guest Howski Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 (edited) sorry... C500 problems that your having have happened on my E200 lol Yea I got a feeling its a windows issue not the actual handset, but I'm glad I'm not alone in this problem... like I said most of the time my phone is now off due to the fact I can't keep an eye on it 24/7. What I dont get is why am I being told this has never been reported before? Every now and again, my C500 locks and I have to renew my aquaintance with the battery. Not very often, but maybe every 3 weeks or so. I have had the phone since December 2004, and it doesn't really cause me sufficient grief to do anything about it. Please do, the more people report the problems the better. Orange are no longer going to see my custom after this and the problems I had with the E200, not because of the problems but because of their responce. -How. Edited September 8, 2005 by Howski
Guest victoria69 Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005  I have a SPV C500 and last night it locked up. I received a text message and when i tried to reply to it the quick list screen came up and the phone locked up and turned itself off. I managed to get it back on but the keypad would not work. A few hours later it was working perfectly, but now its locked again and i can't get into the phone as it wants my password but the keys wont work. If I press lots of keys together it inputs something into the password box. Anyone had a similar experience? The annoying thing is I had some insurance with the phone which was free for 3 months, then I kept it on as I forgot to cancel it, but decided I didnt want it anymore and cancelled it last week, typical. If this problem is typical of the phone would Orange be responsible for repairing it free of charge?
Guest Tech Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 I had this problem last year. Orange WILL repair it for free if you are within your contract and have orange insurance. What did I do? Well, I repaired it through orange :o (also make sure you have the latest software update... their link to the software update is down... i think they are about to release v4.1.2.1 as some people had discovered last nite) I have a SPV C500 and last night it locked up. Thanks for telling me about the software, had no idea there were updates for the phone.
