Check the frequency your phone is using?

if you are in an area where they use both 850 and 1900, how do u know what frequency u are actually using? second question. if u have an 850 phone, if u flash the phone with a rom from a 900/1800/1900 phone, will that get rid of the 850 and only be 1800/1900?? thanks.

How to check which band you are using I dont know, but I have heard that you can actually flash the rom to the 900/1800/1900 version and it will use all the bands. I'm not positive on this, but i have seen much discussion and hope to have someone confirm this. If it is true then the phone is technically capable of quad-band and it is only a matter of time before someone makes a pathc/hacked firmware that can do this.

In other words, I hope it happens. 8)

It's hard to know what frequency the phone is using unless you can discover which cell you are connected to (and which frequency it uses) - possible but I don't know how. You are right about the ROM flashing, however there is a little overlap in the frequencies used by the GSM850 and GSM900 systems so you may get some poor performance on a 900MHz network. The phones have different hardware and are not quad band.
