Guest Twain Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 The quality of the UMD movies is amazing but i cant really justify doubling up all my dvds just so i can watch them on the psp as well. I have tried a few of the free conversion programs but they are all pretty pants none of which actually encode to the full resolution. Was wondering if anyone knew the settings to encode with virtual dub as I always used this for my spv's and xda2 but dont really know what file formats and how well the psp can cope in terms of frame rate and res. A couple of the videos I have seen are encoded with xvid as far as it shows while others simply say mpeg-4 and so on. Any help as to the best progs or settings used to encode would be a great help, will be putting them onto a gig card and dont mind them taking up the whole card although would be good to get a couple on there. (Dont actually have the card yet hence not really able to test myself!)

You want to try and find a copy of the older version of the program as the new one (1.62) isn't as good as the new one. The other thing you want to do is change the settings. I found that the preset ones either make huge files OR or crappy quiality videos. These are the settings I use: Set the min to 384 and the max to 448 Have the pull down set to 512. make sure the resolution is set to 368x208 and 29.97fps I use two passes(takes longer, better quality) Under audio settings, change bitrate to 96k and boost to 200% The only negative thing I have to say about PSP9 is that its really slow!
Guest Twain Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Cheers for the reply, what sort of file sizes does that give for a an averages film, say an hour and a half? Do you know any links for the old version? thanks again

I tend to push the quality up a little and just have the one film on the card.
