Guest RichA Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 I'm looking to secure my smartphone. Ideally I'd like my appointments/calendar and a directory on my miniSD card encrypted, but I'm struggling to find anything, and it doesn't really seem to be discussed on here. I have a C550, if that helps at all. Cheers! --Rich
Guest Tech Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 why dont ya get the securedigital minSD's? (I think thats what they are!) I think they have some kind of lock on the component itself... other than that... I dont know. will do some research though!
Guest RichA Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 I'm not all that bothered about having a secure filestore, but I would like to have my appointments and whatnot secure. Personally, I think this is a glaring oversight on the part of the developers, but from looking on this forum nobody else has really mentioned it - so I guess it's just me being picky :o. --Rich
Guest Tech Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 :o well no one should really be having a sneak peak at your files/appt's etc... in the first place, so put a pin on your phone if you havent already  dnt think the SPV stores appts on your miniSD card... not that im aware of anyway... but yeh... gd Q! :(
Guest RichA Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Nobody is looking at my phone, or anything like that. I let my friend borrow it for the last couple of days - I've nothing to hide from him, he's a top lad :o. But it dawned on me that if it was pinched, whatever data I had stored on it would be accessible to the theif. The PIN is good but only if the theif turns the phone off... I just don't like the idea of someone finding/stealing my phone and knowing everything about my life. It isn't a nice thought :(. --Rich

I lost my C500 at a big marketing event that I was speaking at. I suddenly thought about all the data (contacts etc) on the phone that I really wouldn't want a competitor to get their hands on, a real prospect at an industry specific event like the one I was at! Luckily the phone was found by one of my team about 30 minutes later. Since then I have been using the autolock option that you find under Start - Settings - Security. That way, nobody can use the phone unless they know the password. The lock kicks in automatically after 10 mins (user definable) of inactivity so even if it gets stolen the thief cannot access the data unless they nick it within minutes of the last time I used it. The only other thing to do then is to make sure that the data is on the phone, not the SD card. - Xerxes
