couple of questions from a new(ish) c500 user

Hi There

have been lurking on this site for a while now, it has been very useful for me in finding out how to get the best out of my phone so thanks to all concerned.

I've had my c500 for about a month now and I am very impressed, but I do have a couple of queries that I would love some assistance on...

Autoflight

I installed autoflight, which is an application with various utilities.. all was working fine until I decided to uninstall as I had a similar program with more features to replace it.

now, when the phone starts and on other occasions I get the below error

"cannot autostart \program files\autoflight\autoflight.exe"

I assume there is a startup/registry entry that I have to remove? Could anyone tell me how?

also, is there a program available or a tutorial on how to set up menu items? most of the applications I have installed have set their own icon up... but a few havent and I would prefer to create an icon rather than starting them via Smartexplorer

and lastly... is there a program or again a tutorial I could use to move all the applications that are on the phones memory onto the SD card? I have managed this so far by removing and re-installing but I am sure there is a better way.

many thanks for any help

regards

dave

Hi. Welcome to MoDaCo. :o

1. AutoFlight concern

Open \Storage\windows\StartUp then look for AutoFlight.exe. If there is such a file inside the folder, you may transfer it to a folder on your PC.

2. For Start Menu icon customization try this guide I prepared:

Hi.. thanks for the welcome!

I browsed to that location, but there was nothing pointing to autoflight.exe? could there be another area that its trying to start from? the registry maybe?

also thanks for the icon cust guide, very useful.. and I plan to use it for various icons.. but my question was how to actually set up the links within the start menu pointing to apps on the card that dont have them.

for example.. I have an app freespace.exe - there is no start menu icon for this so I have to start it by going into smartexplorer, then browsing to the program files\freespace folder and then clicking on the .exe - I am looking to set up a link for this and other apps that dont currently have an icon.

thanks for your help!

No prob. :o

Regarding the icon:

You have to create a shortcut then transfer the shortcut (LNK) to your Start Menu folder. You do it under ActiveSync. Highlight an EXE, right click mouse then click on 'Create Shortcut'

As for AutoFlight, which version did you use?

excellent, I can now create links.. has been puzzling me for some time but its suprisingly easy!

autoflight, I beleive it was v 2.0 or 2.1, but cannot be sure until I get home to check.

anyway, many thanks for your help so far.. I can live with the autoflight error for today as I think I will be setting up links for most of it!

my only other question was an application to move pre-installed apps from the phone to the memory card, but again I can live with it at the moment!

once more, thanks for your kind help.

I only have the latest version to check (3 xx) . Examining the file, I saw only AutoStart.exe included on the StartUp folder. Perhaps there is/are some other registry entries only the author can shed light on. Lets hope this gets viewd by cyberhorse. :o

Can you give examples of 'pre-installed' apps you wished moved?

Thanks.

pre-installed is probably the wrong turn of phrase.. I should have said "apps that I installed to the phone"

when I first got the phone I didnt have a large sd card, so when installing apps I installed them to the phone.. they include

BetaPlayer

ChessGenius

Jeyo Organiser

MetroSP

Oxios Hibernate

Various RJV apps

Tweaks2k2 .NET

Smart VNC

etc etc

i can delete and re-install but its a bit of a pain! I did wonder about moving them and then setting up the links with my new knowledge :o but on second thought they may write data to the regsitry etc so this could cause problems.

thanks again

Dave

The best way is to uninstall them then install onto Storage Card.

What I do with some EXE file is transfer them to the card, discard the old LNK, create a new LNK (shortcut). :o

There were tasks event notifications remained in system database. You can doanload autoflight v3.0.2 and install it , then uninstall it again to remove all remained notifications.
