Guest Tech Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 Hi sorry if there is another topic about this, for some reason the forum search does not work on my end! (im sure it does... probably my proxy settings) anyway I phoned up orange just now about the Orange M5000 handset, due to release in oct ish (or this month) and it DOES have wifi but NO Mobile 5.0! instead, it has Windows XP embedded (great)... just a disappointment: C550 came out, free on new contract but NO Mobile 5.0 M5000 coming out, hefty price on new contract or upgrade but NO Mobile 5.0 Orange say they dont know if any future handsets they will have from HTC (including upcoming M1500 and C600) will have Windows Mobile 5.0 that sucks! in the states they have it, and probably everywhere else but not here. Sure, I can obtain the OS legally but that's not the point.. point is, for the future handsets of orange/htc in the UK there appears no Mobile 5.0 not to be a wining **** but come on... latest handsets should mean latest software including OS generally.... :o just thought id share this info! again, my apologies for posting this topic
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 I think that whoever you spoke to might be a little confused. At the MoDaCo Event last month they had a couple of M5000s on hand, and I had a play with them. They definitely seemed to have Windows Mobile 5.0 on it. Isn't Windows Mobile actually built using Windows XP or CE Embedded?
Guest Tech Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 (edited) that could have been a one off thing at the event. Windows Mobile is CE.NET embedded :o I asked 3 orange sales reps (upgrades/disconnects) and they all said no Mobile 5.0 It's all down to HTC... AGAIN.... Edited September 12, 2005 by Tech

The HTC Universal is shipping now albeit not in the form of the SPV M5000. But all of the incarnations have or will have Windows Mobile 5. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about...

Guest DeanoSMB Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Any word on what the likely pricetag of this mama will be? I note the M2000 is still 200 quid on contract, so the M5000 ain't going to be cheap... although it's the one I'm waiting for...
Guest Tech Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 (edited) yeh funnily enough i went to the orange shop today and saw the prototype £200 upgrade and much more than that on new contract! I have 2 handsets on 1 account and 2 contracts on the go and they still are not reducing the cost for me :o same with the M2000 also said it won't be WM5 but WM2003SE! but ive seen the imate jamjar? or jamster..whatever and it shows a pic of 2005!
