Guest girobank Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Hi, i'm in the process of leaving orange, as customer service levels have dropped so significantly. I have an O2 tariff and they are porting my number onto it for me, but can the c500 be unlocked to accept sims for any network? Thanks in advance Paul

I have an O2 tariff and they are porting my number onto it for me, but can the c500 be unlocked to accept sims for any network? Thanks in advance Paul <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have just unlocked my c500 and it works with a voda sim card, I have not set up the mms or gprs setting yet. If you do a search you will find some sites offer unlocking for around £20, I found a site that did it for free, on this one you need to go to the orange developers site and decert your phone. Then you install a small application on the phone, then run a small programme on your PC and it is then unlocked. It might sound complicated but it is simple to do and it saved me £20, sorry I can not remember the links, but a patient search and you should find the info. pavc
Guest mupwangle Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 (edited) To application unlock the phone - either search here for info or email [email protected] with your IMEI number. They should send you a little program to install. This allows you to install anything on your phone. I think the free unlock is done by spv-developers.com (this link is probably wrong but not too much different - search the forum) You download a zip file, copy one file onto your phone and run it from file manager on the phone. Then run the windows app that comes with it and it will unlock the phone. I've tried this on 2 c500s with different ROMs and it was a doddle. Just search the forum for unlock and free and it should come up. [edit - Just checked and the website address above is right. At the bottom of the first page in the news section there is a link to the stuff you need] Edited September 13, 2005 by mupwangle
Guest Tech Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 if your talking about unlocking the phone to make it network free (use other network sims) then you can do it for FREE and its completly reversable its called spv-unlock on spv-developers

I did the orange Imei? thingy and got that I was unlocked from security certs. I then put the cert.cab file on and ran it from my phone it said successfully ( although it has subsequently disappeared) I then did the last SPV services bit and it says that my phone is unlocked. I then put in a different sim card ( 3) and it says invalid orange sim .. !! argghhh .. any ideas anyone? thanks

I would really really appreciate any help on this one.. . I'm really sorry if this one has already been addressed. I had a good look at all other links and couldn;t find a solution . would love it if someone could tell me where I've gone wrong. thanks
Guest lardy Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 The developers thing just application unlocks your phone... this means it will allow you to install unsigned software. To unlock your actual phone, you'll probably have to pay for it to be done.? If i'm wrong someone kick me in the face, but i'm pretty sure that's it.

Bizarre that
Guest mcwarre Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 @miriam 3 use a USIM not a SIM; a USIM will NOT work in a2.5g phone (such as the C500) and vice versa. @lardy You can unlock the C500 for free. Just use the search facility on this site.
